Unless its covered under a union contract they can hire whoever whenever and don't have to give consideration to anyone (unless they need to hire a minority to keep their % in range) regardless of what a memo or note said.

Stays and gets a fine by the university. Blondie gets a package to go away. No suspension for games. No way we do this and risk a run at an SEC title this year.
If Long was going to fire him then it would have been done tonight. This is the AD's way of looking tough and pacifying those in the state who are pissed from a moral standpoint.

this is something i'd like to have clarification on... was this relationship going on before she got the new job?...
if so... fire him... if not... come back with zero margin for error.

I think the personnel issue takes it out of the AD's hands. It was bad enough to have an "inappropriate relationship" with her when she worked for the Foundation, but he had just hired her on 3/28 to direct the recruiting process for the football program! Same day HR posted the job, indicating all who applied before 4/27 would be given due consideration.
So, he messes with HR on the hire, and on promoting his side-piece to a job where he'd be her boss. That opens the University and maybe the state to major legal liability. His actions likely violate his contract in several ways, and maybe federal employment law. I'm not sure they have a choice other than to fire him.

I don't do employment stuff, but this seems off.

You think that they'll look the other way when Bobby hires his mistress on the opening day to make sure she has a job working under him?

you have no idea about the legal implications of wrongfully terminating someone.

Might as well send him packing now. 1) School can claim the high road 2) saves them from doing it in a year or two when this invariably catches up with CBP on the recruiting trail and wins. His wins start trending down, he'll never recover.

Three days isn't much time to develop a "previous inappropriate relationship." I'm guessing it was going on for a while.

uh oh. I was wondering if this was an open position and since this appears to be so, that will certainly open up a can of worms for UA. If there were others who had applied for the job, then UA didn't comply with equal opportunity laws and I imagine Petrino is gone.

No..that would have been the dumb way to do it. An investigation allows him to fire Petrino and not owe him any money....if it was to happen.

jobs at public institutions are a different animal... there's specific protocol that must be met with regards to minority/women candidates, interviews, etc...
at least in AL anyway.

Not if he only found out about what happened tonight. If they fire him without cause, he can sue them and get every dime remaining on his contract without having to work for it.

He will not be fired, end of story.

I know this has been a tough night but you need to accept the fact that Bobby is gone

In some places jobs must be listed for so long, that was the case in the recent Fresno State hire altough the world knew it was the kid from aTm that got the gig they could not announce it until the posting date transpired.
A state to state thing where the laws differ
This could loom large in the media feeding frenzy
