I live in a Dallas suburb, so have lots of OU, A&M, and Texas alums as neighbors and friends and coworkers. I have never gotten the feeling that either OU fans or A&M fans thought of each other as rivals. Or even cared if the two teams ever played each other. Just both very meh about the other team. Which I've always found interesting. You both hate the same team (Texas), but couldn't care less about playing each other. I guess it is because the only history you had with each other was for a few years in the Big 12. Did you ever play each other OOC during Big 8/Southwest conference years?

I'm surprised they didn't put LSU with us. I figured you would get us or Bama.

They did a home and away series in 1993-94 with both teams ranked, and each won pretty big at home. I thought it was a cool series at the time.
Before that, they had played a few times in the early 1900s and a few more in the 40s to early 50s, so there wasn't a ton of history there. Looks like 14 games total before the Big 12, with only the two in the 90s being remotely recent.
A&M gave us one of our biggest scares during the 2000 NC run. Very memorable game. But yeah, no sustained love or hate. I don't think we're all that important to them, or vice versa.

SEC regularar next year is going to be better than the playoffs. Heck, it might be even better now.

Don’t know how I didn’t see it yesterday but Georgia who’s already the best team in the conference this decade got the easiest permanents of all.
USC
21: 7-6
22: 8-5
23: 5-7
24: 9-4
25: 2-2
UF
21: 6-7
22: 6-7
23: 5-7
24: 8-5
25: 1-3
AU
21: 6-7
22: 5-7
23: 6-7
24: 5-7
25: 3-1
We got hung up on UT having an easy schedule while the current powerhouse of the conference gets 3 teams that are in the SEC yet all have been terrible so far this decade. The cocks surprise 9 win season last year is all either 3 have to show for so far in the 2020s and they’ve had a quick return back down to earth. These teams are each averaging 6 losses a season or more for crying out loud

I feel like the league gave the Gators South Carolina and Kentucky to make up for 2024 and 2025

Gotta say, the fanbase that’s screwed the most here is LSU. A charter member, and yet their permanents are 2 expansion programs and Ole Miss? I can’t speak for them, but I recall some epic games with Bama and Auburn. To get neither of them seems a slap in the face.
This is exactly how I feel. No offense but TAMU to LSU is an expected win every year. I know yall have snuck a win or two in since yall joined the SEC but dammit I hate this forced rivalry. I get we used to play some season openers back in the day but imagine being told you have to play UTSA or Rice or something or whoever yall open your season with as a permanent conference opponent instead of Alabama or Auburn or Florida or hell even Mississippi state.
It’s a shite sandwich for LSU.

Not really. They won't be played annually, but they will still happen.
Being played annually is what creates animosity. Playing Alabama at home once every 4 years doesn’t really do it. That’s one game for 4 year players and students.
All because you had to destroy yes another conference and this sport can’t say no to more money ever.

Yeah but in those 21 years, some really fun games were played. I've missed it.
There’s like 4 meaningful games in there. Yall are forced upon us to be our new Tulane.

I don't hate this. Mizzou and Ole Miss will be wins most years. Oxford is a fun place to visit. We play Texas every year anyway. Seems okay to me!
The part I don't like is that Midzou will become our permanent Thanksgiving weekend opponent. Huge letdown. I was expecting it would be LSU.

If people really thought playing 50% of the time was enough they wouldn't fight so hard play their rivals every year. Florida and Florida State would just play whenever. The same thing would work for Texas and Oklahoma. USC and UCLA. Ole Miss and MSU.
We have this whole focus and emphasis on playing specific teams for obvious reasons. Pretending this isn't the focus is changing the subject and iscontradictory to the purpose of scheduling permanent opponents.
Alabama cares more about playing Tennessee and Auburn than Florida or Georgia. Yes, Alabama will have good games against Florida and Georgia the history of their programs demands you line them up to play Tennessee and Auburn more frequently instead. That's the premise of having one or three or six permanent opponents in a conference with 16 school s.

I would say y’all (LSU) were given a cakewalk.

I'm happy with Tennessee's opponents from the perspective of it setting us up nicely to get some wins, especially since we had to play the last three top SEC teams (UF Bama Georgia) every year all throughout the dark ages and its hard to really ever get ahead when you're already down and have to deal with that, but I'm really going to miss playing UF and Georgia every year just as we have really started getting things right again.
I guess being around in the 4th at home = Getting Right LOL. Weak schedule.

I wish UGA could swap out Auburn for LSU.

Texas and LSU, especially if we play LSU on Thanksgiving weekend, makes great sense. The third team gets difficult. I’m fine with Mizz as they’ve been essentially permanent (over 10 years in a row now) for awhile, but I would have thought maybe aTm (every year since 2009 plus SWC), OU (more of a geographical interest) or Ole Miss (very long history and every year since 1981, historically makes the most sense) as the third team.

What would your reaction have been if Georgia were assigned Tennessee, Kentucky, and South Carolina? Instead of getting Florida and Auburn with South Carolina?

Auburn's fricked.
I don't understand this. We have played more "Big 6" games than anybody. We knew it would be bama, UGA, and somebody. I was hoping the third was UF. It is Vandy.

LSU should swap A&M for Bama. Bama should swap Moo State for LSU. Then LSU and Bama can play every year, and Moo State and A&M can play every year. I'm afraid losing the yearly LSU-Bama game will decrease the vitriol of the two fan bases on SEC Rant, and that is unacceptable. Ya with me, Cap'n?
