The Egg Bowl is bigger now and has been for decades.

The last time the Egg Bowl was on CBS was in 2014, Mississippi State's once-in-a-generation season that ended with the Bulldogs finishing #11 in the AP Poll (awesome). State, to no one's surprise, lost that game by two touchdowns.

The Third Saturday in October has been on CBS five times since then.

State fans will try to chalk this up to playing on the same weekend as the Iron Bowl, but that's just because everyone is at fault for their misery except their own garbage program in the minds of America's fifteenth best cow college.

Last time Tennessee finished a season ranked was 2016

Last time Tennessee finished above #15 was at #12 in '07

Last time Tennessee did better than State did in '14 was....

2001

Arkansas vs USCE was dumb but I understood it because we came into the league together. But mizz and a&m come in together and you take away USCE force mizz on us? Dumb. I vote for the 9 game conference schedule with equal rotation. As is now, some kids play 4 years without playing every school.

I've already mentioned that Tennessee is presently awful.

And, yet, this dead program is still more relevant than Mississippi State (whose only top ten finish ever came in 1940 when they finished #9).

That has to sting. Why even bother fielding a team at this point when you could instead direct the cash to one of your national title-yielding programs... oh, wait.

Your players weren't even alive the last time you were anything close to relevant. Stop living in the past. It's 2021.

Is this even a thing?
Ive never understood why this was important.
It obviously wasnt more important than expanding the league to 12 and then 14 teams.

Do you think kids stay a 4th year (and avoid leaving early for the draft) because they may get to play a new cross division team? Let us scale the relevancy of importance.

And for the record... it wasnt important when the conference was founded or at any point in time since.
(UGA has played same division opponent Tennessee 49 times in our history and we have been same division opponents for the past 30 years. UGA has played Miss St 24 times and we have both been in the same conference for the past 88 years).

It feels like millenials make up shite to he unnerved about.

TSIO has been a pretty crappy rivalry since the 70s. While I am not saying those 2 teams are crap, just has had boring long streaks of one team winning which kills the excitement

Even though Ole Miss and MSU are not of the caliber of Alabama of the 2000s or Tennessee of the 1900s, at least there is back and forth. It leads to much more drama and theatrics.

I hate cross-division matchups. The whole SEC has to bend to the will of Alabama in order to keep a rivalry with a team that hasn't been relevant since Clinton was president. So we see great matchups like LSU-Georgia, Alabama-Florida, Auburn-Florida, Texas A&M-Georgia and Alabama-Georgia less frequently.

Tennessee and Alabama is not a rivalry-

Alabama winning % vs SEC schools:

Auburn - 58.9%
Tennessee - 60.3%
LSU - 64.5%
USCe - 66.7%
Florida - 66.7%
Arkansas - 75.9%
Ole Miss - 82.7%
Vandy - 83.1%
MSU - 83.9%
aTm - 88.9%
Kentucky - 94.8%
MIZZOU - 100%

Tennessee has the 2nd highest winning % against Bama in the SEC, and the highest among SEC East teams.

We play when it matters.
In the conference championship game.
4 of the last 9 matchups have been in the conference championship game.

When you think of Ole Miss, is that what comes to mind first? Now, what's our winning % over the last 20 years.

In another college football universe, totally separate from Miss State football tradition, there are rivalries that are historically more fierce and nasty than your egg bowl.

Look above, you have won 14 games against Bama on the field in the last 50 years. That is pretty sad for the largest rival.

For reference, Mississippi State's winning percentage against Alabama in that same timeframe is 10%.

Tenn Bama is the main reason sec still has them
Auburn UGA would be the next long time rivalry both teams want to keep

Fla LSU is still a great matchup and I've enjoyed it over the years but it's hurt LSU with tiebreaker and was a tough draw every year having to play Spurrier and the Swamp is not an easy place to play every other year
LSU has finally made it a pretty even series over the last decade but it is still an inherent advantage unless Tenn gets a whole lot better

Actually Ole Miss fans are guilty of trying to include stuff 50+ years ago. That was the last time we were actually good.

Historical stats are kind of worthless, unless you have inner issues you are trying to compensate for.

Our cross-division match-up is really unfair. South Carolina has literally never won against us.
