-9 Game Conference Schedule
-2 OOC Games vs FBS teams

-8 team playoff

Consists of:

-SEC champion
-ACC champion
-B1G champion
-B12 Champion
-PAC champion
-Best Group of 5 team
-At Large
-At Large

Seeding determined by CFP committee

This solution fixes the major complaints about the playoffs.

-Conference Championships mean something
-No more UCF complaints
-Notre Dame punished for not joining conference

If we did this, the playoff would have looked like this last year.

#1 Clemson vs #8 Washington
#2 Alabama vs #7 UCF
#3 Notre Dame vs #6 Georgia
#4 Oklahoma vs #5 Ohio State

Another option is just to make it 3 at large teams, in which LSU would replace UCF.

It’ll be the perfect system until it’s not.

Why have automatic bids? Just pick the top 8 teams.

I don't know.

Would Georgia want to be there?

I couldn't resist.

Or the top 8 teams in the end of the season get in no matter the conference.

The only problem I see with it is G5 teams complaining about not equal opportunity.

Like I said, it will never happen because of the politics, but it’s the correct move.

It's a terrible system.

I will never understand why people think we need to go to 8 teams #1.

And then when you go to 8 teams you still think you need AQ status?

If your conference champion can't make it into the top8, there's a very good reason for it.

I like it.

Unfortunately, schools are too attached to their rent-a-wins.

But as a fan, I don't give a flip about Northwest New Mexico Tech. I want more games between Power 5 schools all year long. Group of 5 is fine too. But cut down on the lower tier riff raff. Won't happen though. 8 team or even 6 team playoff will happen first.

A committee is where good ideas go to die.

Use advanced statistics to determine everything.

Game control would work.

This is the truest statement I've read on this board, or anywhere by anyone discussing college football and possible expansion.

Why not just bring back the old BCS rankings and select the top ::insert number:: for the playoffs?

Because the regular season Conference schedule has to mean something. In College Football the teams records are comparing apples to oranges due to schedule, so having someone say who the better teams are is pure speculation. Based on taken the 5 Champions of the B5 Conferences, makes the Conference Championship games play ins. That is how the rest of sports works.

I was with you until eight team playoff. A four team playoff is perfect. Maybe you can expand it to six but no more than that.

No matter what system you have someone will bitch about being left out. You would have to have a playoff including every team in the nation for no one to have a gripe.

The problem is the more teams you add the more teams think they are better than the last team let in. With the 2 team (BCS) only 1 maybe 2 teams had a reason to complain. Now with 4 about 4 or 5 teams could argue on a given year they should be in. The whole top 15 could argue they are as good as the 8th team in a 8 team playoff. It never ends.

In order to get it right they would have to realign D1 and the conferences then make a playoff from the conferences and still some how make teams not quit after locking up a spot like the NFL. Right now with 4 teams a team can't afford to lose anything late.

The perfect system would be 6 conferences of 12 teams each.
Each conference plays 8 games with 4 OOC games that can only be played against these other 5 major conferences. Teams are permitted to have up to one permanent OOC rival. Winners of each division play for conference titles. 6 conference champs plus two at-larges make the playoffs, the first round of which is at the home team of the higher ranked team. Teams with at least 6 wins not making the playoffs go play in the exhibition bowls where they can be matched up with group of five teams like they are now. Conferences are designed with the interests of preserving traditional rivalries rather than maximizing tv revenue.

In addition, we could even talk some kind of relegation system where teams can move up and down between the major conferences and the mid majors.

Make it 6 teams and take the at large off. Give the top two ranked conference champs a bye week
