My guess is Newman sees himself as a 1st round guy on some draft board and Daniels may win the starting job. Much easier to have a COVID opt-out excuse than not to be named starter.

From everything I’ve heard, Newman is the clear starter, but if you’re projected to be a 1st round pick in this world it’s hard to entirely fault someone for leaving.
