Penn State won 13 games last year. To those of us who are of a certain age, Penn State is still an elite job.

I'm almost 50. In a vacuum would you take Penn State over any of these?

Ohio State
Michigan
Oregon
LSU
Alabama
Georgia
Miami
USC
Oklahoma
Texas
Texas A&M
Florida
Florida State

Hell, I'd even toss Tennessee, Clemson and Auburn in there. It's a 15-20 job in 2025.

Penn State also had a cupcake schedule and played absolute jokes in the playoffs.

Hard to be a top 10 job when you aren't a top 16 job.

Penn State was close to being great under Franklin. You can still win a NC at Penn State in my opinion.

I agree, and he came close last year.

Maybe he should have qualified it with “in this century”

Unless they played ranked teams. Care to defend that?

Serious question, what's elite about it? Their history is almost exclusively tied to one guy who coached there for like 4 decades, and his legacy is inextricably linked to one of the most, if not THE most, disturbing scandals in CFB history. You literally can't mention paterno without somebody immediately bringing up pedo enablement. It's that bad.

Budget is middle of the pack for SEC and Big Ten. Recruiting grounds are nothing special.

It's a solid job but I see no reason to put it higher than 15 or so.

Heard a discussion about the PSU job on SiriusXM today, and their comment was about how quiet that search has been. No rumors, no tracked flights. Their speculation is they already have their guy and he’s still coaching.

Their alumni are either cheap, or Pennsylvania is your classic broke rust belt state.

I take it you're not familiar with Terry Pegula? Billionaire owner of the Bill, Sabres, pumps millions a year into Penn State. PA is 6th in the nation in GDP and 4th in the nation in number of wealthy households, 4th as well in state ranking in ultra-wealthy households ($15 million+).

You're right though, Penn State has been reluctant to get deep into NIL. The previous AD didn't believe in it which put them behind from the get-go. They are working to get things on track.

Penn state made the semi finals last year

You can name 9 SEC schools you would take over them?

If Auburn scored on that final drive I’d say DeBoer would be fleeing to Penn State. Now I think it’ll be Matt Rhule.

You frickwads went 7-5 this year and haven't sniffed the playoffs since Burrow left, but still think you're the best job on earth
