Will someone please stab the OP in a critical blood vessel

SC fans can make themselves think this is the way to go, but I’m shocked. PM must be a smoother operator than I thought to convince a program like SC to take him at close to 70. Guy was dragging big time at the end of his LSU career and it’s been 3 years since then. Weird, weird hire. Get ready to lose alot of mid week games and play a whole lot of small ball lol.

I also felt that it was time to hand the program over to a younger person that had maybe a little more energy and that could do the little things that I always did. I was just running out of gas. I've coached almost 2,300 games. I've coached over 900 games at LSU. With the expectations as high as they are at LSU, it could wear you down a little bit. I just felt it was the right time

After yet another L to Tennessee in the tournament.
Also incorrect. LSU didn’t play UT in the SECT in 2021

Tanner needs to stabilize the program. Even though he'll only be here for 4-5 years, it is most likely a safer path that can bring at least a little respect back to the program through results.

is it the best long range hire for USC? probably not - starting with PM's admitted burnout - then factor in Carolina might be searching for a 4th baseball coach in a 16-18 year window - when we had 3 coaches from 1970-2012 -
it's the path we're on now - and Maineri's done more than enough in his career that he'll have the collective fan base behind him by the time opening day 2025 arrives - one which every Gamecock will be happy to not see Mark Kingston standing along the 1st base dugout line when the 2025 roster is introduced for the first time -

I'm excited that a national championship head coach from LSU is limelighting at a mid level SEC school in SC. It's like if Vitello left for Texas and tenner hired him. Although that's not really a fair comparison to SC since they've actually won a couple of nattys.

He certainly has the know how (if he can figure out the portal and NIL). DOes he have the energy? I wanted him in 2002 when we hired Polk back. Could do worse I reckon.

Mainieri is a good man and a solid coach but if I were a USC fan I wouldn’t be exactly thrilled over this. I personally would have taken Godwin because he’s younger and has done a hell of a job at ECU.
Was Godwin in the running?
If so, you are right. Godwin is a hell of a coach.

All indications point that way yes. We'll know officially after today. I wouldn't quite call it a done deal yet though.

Probably so. I would imagine his boyfriend is not a flaccid penis fan but idk.
