The band plays 'Forward Rebels' all the time now. It has always been the official fight song, and it is a good one. At the end of the third quarter, the band also plays, "I Saw The Light," and during night games, the fans blaze up their cell phones. That's the lineup of current athletic teams.

So I guess "UMiss" it is? Y'all already use that and "Mississippi" is too cumbersome. Also might want to remove that grey from the uniforms

I hope “Ole Miss” never goes away.

It’s ashamed that Dixie is not allowed

What a beautiful piece of music.

Thought they were the Bears??

Bears (black bears or brown bears) is obviously a racial slur against People Of Color. Polar Bears would be a racial slur proclaiming White Power.
The University of Mississippi has a difficult time coming up with a proper nickname.

I miss Col. Reb.
Remember going to a UGA homecoming game & seeing him on the other side of the hedges as I walked by.

I wouldn't be surprised if this happened. I read a fascinating book about integration at Ole Miss called 'And the Band Played Dixie'. With each generation there is less resistance to getting rid of symbols from the past that are potentially painful or noninclusive. I'm generally conservative and identity politics make me sick, but I feel like black folks got a raw deal for a long time, particularly with regards to educational opportunities and if they say some symbol or whatever associated with a university makes them uncomfortable 'we' should bear it in mind. More than ever we are all in this together.

UM has tried to "contextualize" Confederate monuments, rename buildings and such, but these are half-measures; they need to remove them and do away with the Rebels moniker and "Ole Miss"

See this is where you are wrong. While you are being inclusive and generous and willing to let go of your tradition and racial consciousness, non Whites are not. Nor are they being encouraged to let go of THEIR traditions and racial consciousness. As Whites continue to become more of a minority or only a plurality, this will become painfully clear.

I wish we could all let go of such intense racial consciousness, but till non Whites are just as willing to let their consciousness wane, I refuse to let mine wane. You can care about your race by the way, without having to hate people of other races.

They said they were only interested in removing Confederate monuments at one point, but across the North cities and schools have faced demands to remove statues of other White men. It will never end till Whites say hell no. We will actually gain respect when we do that. Nikki Haley really messed up when she chose to given in to the demonization of the Rebel flag when that psycho kid killed those Black parishioners. Should Whites start demanding an end to all public playing of rap music since Blacks commit 90 per cent of all interracial violence? After all, most of those guys liked rap music right? Was the CSA about murdering Black worshippers? No. Were the slaves in the US ONLY in the South, even during the war? NO. Slavery was still legal in NJ in the last year of the war. And The EP did not free one Northern slave. Don't forget that children were being forced to work in Northern factories. So the North had no moral superiority.

cuckery defined

You will keep losing with this approach. They will never be satisfied with just Confederate monuments as I just explained above.

The Confederacy stood for wealthy slaveholders, not the common white folks of the South. UMiss valorizes the "University Greys" who were almost all slaveholders and went to war to defend their right to hold human property. Ord'nary whites in Mississippi and elsewhere were less than enthused about the war and secession. Parts of northern Alabama, eastern Tenn and northern GA were downright hostile to Rebels since they were populated by poor white folks who were asked to fight for the slaveholders. The rich slaveowners in the river road area of Louisiana and NOLA wanted to protect slavery, poor Cajuns and immigrants in NO didn't care.
