I am blatantly stating that the NCAA is the judicial system of college athletics. If a coach, or player, is in good standing with the NCAA, it would be against federal law for a conference to bar a coach from his craft.

So, you are arguing that if a coach blatantly breaks a conferences rules nothing can be done about it? That's not even close to being true.

The SEC has had rules that apply only to the SEC for years and control the players and/or coaches within the SEC. The coaches, schools and players are still under NCAA authority but are bound by SEC rules, too.
That is one reason that players could not transfer from one SEC team to another SEC team without sitting out until recently, unless they got a release from the school they were transferring from. If the SEC wants to make a rule that says no SEC school can hire a coach under a show/cause they certainly can do it.

quote:

Precisely my point. The NCAA is the law...not conferences.
The NCAA is the law when a player or coach breaks an NCAA rule. If a player or coach breaks an SEC rule then the SEC is the law. It really isn't that difficult to understand. There are rules on the books that apply only to SEC schools and players. The NCAA cannot and will not do anything if the SEC enforces SEC rules.

ETA

Here is a perfect example:

Sports Illustrated Story

On Thursday, the Southeastern Conference presidents and chancellors voted to eliminate an intra-conference transfer rule that forced players to sit out a year after transferring inside the conference.

The NCAA already approved a one-time transfer rule for any student-athlete back in April but the SEC was the final Power 5 conference to not allow players to transfer to another school within the league without sitting out a year.

The SEC rule, in this instance trumped the NCAA rule.

Here is another rule that applies to the SEC only, therefore the SEC has jurisdiction.
NCAA FB

The SEC passed a number of new measures at the conclusion of its spring meetings, including banning transfers with 'serious misconduct' and increasing fines for rushing the field.

DESTIN, Florida -- The SEC passed a new rule Friday preventing transfers from entering the conference who were previously disciplined by a different school due to “serious misconduct.”

The SEC defined “serious misconduct” as sexual assault, domestic violence or other forms of sexual violence. The rule excludes banning transfers if at a previous school the player had “limited discipline applied by a sports team, or temporary disciplinary action during an investigation.”

The NCAA has no such rule. The SEC certainly does have the ability to make and enforce rules that apply to SEC schools.

I am saying that a conference can't ban a coach from coaching in said conference if the NCAA allows him to work. It's not that hard to grasp.

exactly which one of these rules apply to Freeze?

That rule simply states that athletes who have committed violent crimes against women can't transfer in. You are reaching.

not regarding employment.

Sure they can. There are lots of things the SEC bans that the NCAA allows. Not many years ago the SEC would not allow a student who was a professional in one sport play as an amateur in any other sport in the SEC, while the NCAA did not care. The SEC can make any decision/rule they want as long as it does not contradict NCAA rules/regulations. there are no rules saying any coach can coach anywhere he wants.

So now you think the rule has to name Freeze specifically?

Look. I am not saying that freeze cannot come into the SEC. What I am saying is that if the SEC rules that Freeze is off limits, then he is off limits. As far as I know, no such edict has been made.

I am merely pointing out that just because the NCAA says something is ok does not mean the SEC cannot overrule that as it pertains to SEC schools.

They absolutely can ban a coach or a player from participating in the SEC. As long as policies do no contradict specific rules/guidelines by the NCAA the SEC can set whatever standards or rules they wish that will apply only to SEC member institutions.

Harsin did more damage to Auburn in less than 2 seasons than any coach in living memory. So yeah, Auburn is a mess right now, but it's all due to a narcissist and his potato posse from out west. But we're working on getting it fixed.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

The “significant thing that changes” would be a Saban retirement after the Iron Bowl. He’s NOT going to Auburn. He’s going to Alabama (when Saban decides he’s done).

Auburn fans are completely delusional in thinking that they are that significant thing.

Actually you are incorrect and I don't mean that as an ass.
Kiffen hates Tuscaloosa and has anymosity towards Saban who treated him like a step child while he was there. Kiffen needed the exposure and had to deal with it. He wants to beat Saban not follow him.
Auburn has 3 options and all are a win win.
However, nothing is ever a done deal until both parties sign the bottom line.
What we are missing here is you can bet that oil money in College Station made a phone call or two last night and this morning and could get in to this.
This is going to get very interesting next few days.
