OU. Not acceptable.

If what we’ve seen so far is a pre-cursor, this is going to be even uglier than thought with a schedule that has 5 opponents ranked in the top 10 yet to come. And here’s the deal, I wouldn’t mind losing some of those upcoming games…IF we are at least competitive…it does not look like that is going to be the case , at least offensively. The defense has been a pleasant surprise but that’s the ONLY positive thus far. Unimaginative play calling, Jackson Arnold looking shell shocked and tentative. Injuries taking out a workable O line and the one strength we thought we’d have , the receivers, falling to injury. Who knows what can happen, but this is not good.

What is the general feel amongst the OU fan base about the performance of Venables as a head coach?

I’m still unsure about Venables, but will have a much better answer for what I think about him at the end of this season.

Personally, I think Riley leaving was a good thing for OU.

Venables has been great so far.
Only criticism from me is, he needs to move on from trying to resurrect dead and buried BIG XII offensive schemes of the past. Bring in somebody with fresh ideas who can create, instead of just another turd trying to mimic somebody's else offense they used to work for.

Has to be better than the Rantards feelings about...well...any coach we've ever had.

I also think you're right, but Venables probably isn't the answer.

Brent has turned the program around in term of culture and has improved recruiting. Defense has a pulse. He comes from the Bob and Dabo school of hiring your buddies instead of national searches for the best....
Might cost him his job....
Doubt is setting in for me, and I'm a dyed in the wool sunshine pumper. The total lack of any offense is shocking.

I thought you guys knew what you had when you turned loose of Gabriel? That guy is the only player keeping Oregon afloat. That may end up being the sooner's greatest regret.

Funny enough, I see A&M and OU on the same path this year. Good D, junk at OL and questionable QBs and limited threats at the skill positions vs their usual expectations.
Where things get interesting is that OU has a much tougher schedule, but better raw material to work with.
8&4/9-3 is probably the ceiling for both with a 6&6 floor. Maybe if you squint hard enough you’ll see a non-bowl season, but I am thinking just a middle of the pack result

You might be right. Having a senior helping this young oline along could be better. That said, DG would be getting killed with this O line as well. The answer (always is) the back up. Michael Hawkins is a very athletic mobile QB. Might have to give him a shot just so he can create with his feet and try to cobble some scores and lean on that defense. 4 of the 5 top Wideouts are out and the oline is missing too many guys. Crapfest.

Maybe we should have an offense that utilizes a route tree and has intermediate routes instead of asking our QB to complete "deep ball or bust" nonsense all the time.
No slants
No crossing routes
No RB screens
No RB swing passes
No RB wheel routes
No attacking the middle of the field at all.
No TE up the seam
Only targeting the TE twice in a game (it's there every time)
It's all go-routes down the sideline. So far it's just a cheap chinese knock-off of exactly what Lebby was doing.

Ummm, excuse me. A dozen posts in and not a single troll or flame, just a solid and respectful discussion of the state of one member’s program.
I’m not sure y’all understand how this place works!
Seriously, props for the refreshing discussion!

He coached his arse off against Texas last year. He won with an inferior team against a pretty good coach. As a rival I always preferred OU with a defense first head coach and I think that's what Venables is. Still early. Never count OU out. Ever.

Outside of UT AND TU, Ole Miss and Mizzou to a degree...SEC fans have a lot of WTF is going on right now with their teams.
I don't mention UGA because they are an NFL south team.

We shall see.
I think Texas (Sark) is trending whereas Kirby (UGA) is just trying to hold his ground.
The Texas trend may not be strong overcome UGA, but then again it might.

Venables is well liked but OU fans won’t be happy if the offense continues to shite the bed. The new OC was Venables hire and it was a real head scratcher. It’s going about expected.

No school can look good with 5 new o-line starters blocking for a new QB. It was ridiculous that OU was/is ranked.
