Hearing from various media outlets about how OU will take another step forward.
Is this due to Mateer looking good at the MPA? OL is better? I know they picked up WR Livingstone from UTa, and returned production on defense.
I thought last year their lack of run game really hurt them in the bigger games. If they can block & run then I agree they will be really hard to beat

It's due to everybody that was brought in around Mateer, the OL being a year older, and the expectation that the run game will definitely be improved.
Mateer still has to show me he can play the QB position, so I'm remaining cautious.

We’ll see if Mateer can limit his “what the frick was that” throws.
@ Michigan, @ UGA and @ UF is a tough road slate.
Texas at a neutral site with Ole Miss and A&M at home.
I don’t see a return to the playoffs for them in 2026.

Gotcha, I really like the style of football OU plays. Mateer in my opinion needs to cut down the costly interceptions.
In the LSU game last year, he made a few bad throws that kept the game really close

He's definitely had more hype than substance. The Ole Miss defense was pretty average last year and outside of the big pass to Sategna (which was just an 8 yard crossing route that Ole Miss busted on and Sategna did the rest), he looked extremely pedestrian. There was no vertical threat. Very possible the hand injury played a massive factor in this and he'll be lights out now that he's fully healed.

When a team has a below average rushing attack, usually the QB has to press more. I think the success of their season just boils down to if they consistently get a push on OL

A healthy Mateer, a terrific O-line, and Harris / Satenga / Livingstone / Hansen to throw to....

They were so fun to watch last season. They may not have been ranked the "best" but they seemed to know their keys so well and how to read the opponents.
I don't know who they lost from last season but watching them run around is fun as F

The most impactful losses on the defense were RMT (Edge) and Gracen Halton (DT)
RMT left the Tennessee game last year and was replaced by Taylor Wein with no dropoff in production. Wein returns and is now the sole starter there so I expect no dropoff.
Replacing Halton could be another matter. We have young guys showing out that look good, but losing experienced production is losing experienced production.
None of the other guys we lost on the defense are really a concern for me.

Another tricky spot for OU the last game of the season, for sure.
Drink needs to beat one of OU and Texas at home.

Venables will always deliver good defense with his teams especially at OU, that defense carried them to the playoff after Mateer's hand injury
The above-stated enhances whatever perceived hype is currently attached to OU this preseason, Mateer and Arbuckle's arrival in Norman provided a lot of hype last season already
Mateer's physical tools and projected QB performance connected to Arbuckle's Air Raid schemes will always provide hype for OU as long as he's healthy
