No troll. Need a little help from some of our better (and real) OU and TX posters:

TOPIC: Red River “RIVALRY” (Shootout)

Legit confused on the “Rivalry” part. On the plus, you both acknowledge it. Ok - step 1

On the minus, you both (in general) don’t really seem to hate one another or really bothered by a loss. It’s very civil (relatively) with mutual “respect”. Like two rich chaps watching a game of polo and saying “jolly fun, we do this again next year” and that’s that.

I’d say that is more two storied programs acknowledging a historical strong matchup. Not a rivalry.

What is absent is the disgust, disdain, and repulse of the other team. That’s a rivalry. You see it spilling everywhere off the field and respective fans psychological well-being for the next 364 days hinges on the outcome.

You should really see an Iron Bowl. It’s crazy. Many others. For instance, had a buddy invite me to ATL for the GT/UGA game. That level of hate for that game surprised me. Far more viscous then I expected, particularly considering how one sided it has been the last few decades. Leaving the stadium there was one GT student in tattered clothes (clearly got in fight) standing on a perch yelling “What’s the good word?” And all the GT fans walking past him would yell “To hell with Georgia!” over and over… after a loss.

So is TX/OU a real “rivalry”?

Do you call it that because there is no other decent word to call it and “great historic matchup” sounds lame?

No shade here. Glad to see it continuing.

With you both joining SEC, it is now SEC tradition and good for the rest of us to be able to speak intelligently on it.

If they would replace Vanderbilt in Arkansas, that would immediately make this conference way stronger

They only “hate” each other the week before the game. Donghorns true rival is A&M. OU’s real rival is Okie Lite( Oklahoma State).

It seems that way as a pig looking in. I do see more triggered responses when involving those schools.

It's pretty simple. This isn't the real world, this isn't Inside Texas or Dirt Burglars, it's SEC Rant. Only here is there a "two outsiders versus a bunch of shite talking, gay, conference worshippers" scenario taking place.

Fair enough, but I do see (in general) more tame chatter outside tRant too.

And the Googles turns up lots of other crazy, unhinged things fans of other rivalries do. Definitely not endorsing it.

Only thing we endorse in Arkansas, but say we don’t, is an Ol’ cold beer.

Right, I feel like this rivalry is similar to LSU/Bama the past decade or so. True historic rival? Not really, more like a big yearly game that usually had a significant impact on post season standings and who won their conference. It won’t have as much meaning going forward because it won’t have as much significance as it did in the past.

Texas & Aggie is a true rivalry, the game rarely if ever decided anything important outside of bragging rights, but they truly hate each other similar to Ole Miss & State.

Bwahahahahahaha!

Aggy is so desperate to have a rival they beg big brother Texas to hate them.

Here is the way it works...

Texas and OU have mutual respect for each other and look forward to a good game. A loss sucks really bad as Texas and OU are border rivals. Usually both teams are ranked.

Texas and OU both look down upon their in-state challengers, aggy and OK State. OK State and aggy are the eternal little brothers and usually finish mid to last in conference rankings. Obviously OK State is a more formable challenger than agg as they have actually played in their conference title game twice in the last 3 years.

Zero title appearance for aggy in their current conference. That is why nobody cares about them.

Funny the whole world knows its a top 1-3 football rivalry . Drew like 9 million views . Each years it’s either game of year or top 5 game of year . Yet you sec rant forum posters can’t understand why it’s called a rivalry ? Watch more football! OU and Texas has played 100 plus years in a row and hate each other ….. you guys are pretending to not understand the difference between OU and Texas getting better by joining the sec and us being attached together ( as friends) which we are not … we just had to ensure we didn’t get left behind in recruiting and was able to play the game each year . First stipulation of us joining was we played the game the same weekend every year and the sec said sure ….

If Texas was A@M real rival why haven’t they played in so long …… becuase A@M was scared and wanted to get out of Texas shadow which their ad has stated numerous times .

Come on now, WestSideTiger. How long would the following two threads be?

1. Tell me about the Jones family next door?

2. Tell me about the Branch Davidians?

I lived in Alabama for 2 years (The Wiregrass -lower Alabama) and have been all over that state.

The Alabama-Auburn relationship I saw was more of big brother little brother; meaning there was a rivalry but it wasn't pure hatred.

It could also be that southerners are more respectful towards one another.

Rivalry or not, most older fans grow out of the young passionate hatred phase.
