He should be granted another couple years to groom a quarterback like Cam or Nick Marshall. It would only be fair.

Fun read, and I agree; 5 just seems like too much, no matter how the cookie might crumble. Who knows haha

It should. We expect more than MSU...

What if Auburn loses to Oregon, Florida and Georgia in the regular season, and then loses to Georgia or Fla (or whoever wins the East) again in the SEC champ game and then loses the bowl game?

That would mean wins over every team in the SEC West.

I still think it would be time to let him go, right? Look at what LSU did with Les Miles. Look at UGA and Richt. Would the couple of great wins really outweigh the pain of five losses, in any fashion? If the offense looks out of sync, as hard as it has in the past, AND they lose some weird ones...this is a good debate, I don't know for sure; obviously.

If he didn't have the contract he has now, there is absolutely no way he stays after losing 5.

He does have that contract, though. Even so, it seems every time I think "there's no way [insert university] has enough funds to pay for something like that" I get proved wrong.

GusBus loses at least 5. But he will keep his job. Auburn is a young team which needs time to get their cleats under them. 20 or 21 should be their year.

Plus they can’t afford the buy out.

Who are the 5?

All over 14 point losses?

I’m not predicting a stellar year due to the young QBs. If we don’t look fricking completely lost and actually compete in tough games he’ll be retained for 1 more year. If we suck dick again he’s toast.

8-5 gets him another year. They don’t have the money to pay that buyout if he wins 8

No, the GusBus will continue to roll in 2020 if the 2019 team loses 5 games.

Guaranteed, just like 75% of that $50M contract.

So basically 9-5 with wins over Bama and LSU?

9 wins makes it harder, and two wins over rivals would as well. Still, it would be tough to swallow ending the year with 2 losses and then keeping him. Losing twice to UGA would be another mark if that happened. Of course it all depends how it goes down. If we lost a close SECCG, went to a good bowl and lost a competitive game to a good opponent, people would probably be relatively pacified.

Regardless, I can't see them coughing up the money required if we win the west, get 9 wins and beat Alabama.

We had the money to pay that buyout last year, we just didn't have the will

8-5 with a win over UGA/Bama probably saves him. Another 8-5 year where we get rolled by our rivals and I doubt he survives.
