About half of the public Power 5 athletic departments were self-sustaining in 2017-18, meaning revenue covered expenses without funding from student fees or university support. Take away football ticket revenue alone and only two schools still make the cut -- Georgia and Texas A&M -- according to the data from Syracuse University.

Kudos to Bjork & McGarity

Well, except for the fact that at a lot of SEC schools those expenses include items that are not necessary in a time of crisis and could easily be cut.

Hell, this is one of Georgia folks biggest frustrations with McGarity . He treats the UGA AD like a for-profit company trying to show a great net income every year (or at least he used to pre-Kirby, that seems to have changed a little since Richt was fired).

Bjork wasn't the AD in 2017 or 2018.

This subject has come up in the past, but for different reasons. But don’t most SEC schools have archaic state laws that mandate student fees and the university general fund go to athletics? It’s a minuscule amount in most cases.

So A&M would just lose to Georgia every year?

It would be pretty easy to cry and blame the refs like Lsu normally does in the A&M-Georgia game last year, but I wouldn’t do that.

Sorry your AD isn’t run well enough and supported well enough to stay afloat.

All that money, and still BARELY able to achieve mediocrity in football. How embarrassing!

Imagine paying $75M to a coach to maintain mediocrity.

I am incredibly skeptical of this claim. I'm sure there are ways to account revenue/cost to justify it, but at the least this analysis is ignoring the non revenue value that sports programs add to a university's financial performance.

but if all this is to say that the powers that determine whether or not there is a 2020 cfb season are recognizing they HAVE to have a season, then it's got my full support.

LSU never plays UGA close enough for the refs to make a difference. If you are referring to what happened before 50-7, I cannot remember the details.

But you're welcome for Woody righting A&M's empty, bounty-less ship. Baton Rouge's finest is currently righting ours

Exactly, yearly balance sheets aren't always indicative of "survival."

Hey, at least we know our place. We don't go around with our chests puffed out pretending like we're on the cusp of greatness just b/c we have money.

We've been handicapped for year because he only cared about the reserve fund. It wasn't until Pruitt and now Kirby came along that he's opened up his purse strings.

Why blame the refs?

LSU owns Aggie.

As for 74-72, it was a common consensus that there was some questionable officiating. Basically every major news organization mentioned it but I'm sure you were out of commission from celebrating your biggest win lately.

Over a team that wasnt even top 5 and had 2 losses.

Sad.

Imagine having a football program and not winning a football game.

IKR? 1948 must have been a rough season to be an Aggie fan.

FYI idiot, that's one more winless season than Arkansas has.
