Looks like the REC is going to have to step up in the future.

So a jump in 5 stars means we should be suspicious of cheating?

But a team that finishes top 5 for 12 years despite insane assistant coaching turnover, not suspicious at all.

This is like McGuire being ticked at Sosa for hitting more HRs

The irony of bamas complaining about

any program cheating

In recruiting

Or anything else

Is glorious

OP, this is first year for NIL. Texas A&M has a very large very well financed fan base. You don't like 2nd place? Nut up and compete.

There are no awards for 1st place in recruiting. But aTm will probably hang a large banner this year.

And what's up with a large fan base for a school that never wins titles? Seems your fan base loves a lot of 2nd place and even much lower. I guess your fan base loves throwing good money after bad.

Yep

If Bama is complaining, it must mean you are doing something right to win.

At it's core this is the real argument. Essentially some folks think A&M is some backward cow college and unworthy of recruiting at this level. It's just ignorance or hubris.

It’s pretty clear, and I don’t know why the A&M staff doesn’t just own it. It would be an even better recruiting pitch.

“We’re very fortunate here to have a tremendous amount of local support for our players, and they have benefited from the opportunity to represent local businesses. Several players in this class made decisions to take advantage of those opportunities to promote their name, image, and likeness - which is their right to do.”

Or whatever.

Instead it’s been a whole lot of “NO YOU!!1!” - which is silly.

To play devil's advocate if they think NIL is about to be gutted by a rule change, then it would be smart of the staff to try to take credit for it on their own and make it seem like the players just LOVED College Station (lol)

Nothing says integrity of journalism and lack of bias then intentionally misspelling someone's name in the first sentence of your article.

Classic :)

To me, at A&M, it's less about buying a title than about not buying one. If you spend $30 million, hire the best assistant talent, and then win 8 games, that's going to require a hard look in the mirror. Jimbo's been paying players from way back. That doesn't make him unique; nearly everyone has, so that's not Jimbo's beef. Jimbo's trying to manage expectations.

I thought you can't recruit a high school player with nil.

How would he claim it if that's the case?

This is going to be hard to take, but no one's jealous of A&M.

Bama, sure. A&M, no.

Bama has money. LSU has money. Georgia has money. Texas has money. OU has money. UF has money. All have alumni and NIL opportunities, hell Saban was bragging about his QB making $1 million to the Texas HS Coaches Assn a year ago. Clemson made a huge deal about their QB getting paid for his national NIL deal. Texas had their little charity/NIL deal that pays OL

Well looking back to 2005 and you mentioned all the teams that basically have won championships except a few others.

Most of these schools have the better facilities and money and are paying the top salary's to coaches.

Stands to reason these schools and a few others will also be in the best position to take advantage of NIL.

Wealthy alumni and or businesses that want to go down the path of paying huge NIL contracts will attract the better players.

Texas A&M has stepped up with facilities and hiring Jimbo to compete for titles, I look for you guys to do something big

We shall see and for sure the landscape has changed, Maybe the Aggies just pulled off a great class without paying out big money and who knows, if you guys did and are within the rules then it is ok.

Pretty much this. The only thing is I am not saying A&M didn't pay out money (likely within the rules as it isn't hard to do). My point is that I doubt A&M offered significantly more money that the other schools listed. It really doesn't make sense with a moment of reflection. It's not like Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, and UGA are ignorant of the NIL game and that seems to be what many believe. It's the only way they can bring themselves to think why A&M would recruit so well even if it really doesn't make sense.

The other thing that's foolish is why folks don't understand Jimbo denying it especially if it isn't true. If it isn't true then how can he justify to Recruit A that he is paying Recruit B differently? How about current players? It would destroy the locker room. Now if they are really paying them then so be it, everyone gets a chance to make money by proving their value. It's just pretty clear that isn't the case.
