It's funny because they had the same attitude then that they do now.

The difference being, instead of that "longest active win streak" that they had back then, they lost their most recent game to Purdue...in their own state.

That’s a painful answer I thought he was going to win a heisman and go on to the NFL hall of fame after his freshman year

But yes

Andre Pulpwood Smith, UGA, 1984. Would have become a household football name in the USA. Cocaine is a helluva drug.

Maty Mauk. Mizzou.

In 2013 he played amazing as a freshman and everyone thought he was the next big thing including Mizzou fans. Hell, most thought he should have been starting over James Franklin. Boy was everyone wrong.

I remember that kid. He was great that one season but faded afterwards. I think I heard that he liked to party really hard and that was in part what did him in. Not sure if it's true as I don't follow Mizzou super close, but it was either him or another Mizzou qb who allegedly was rumored to like to dabble with booger sugar.

Booger sugar was definitely Maty Mauk. He loved to party.

Surprised I had to scroll this far for the correct answer. Mike Evans won the heisman for Manziel.

Manziel was the sec’s leading rusher the year he won the heisman. Evans was responsible for less than 30% of manziel’s passing yards that year.

Yep. Unfortunately, Mallet was actually off the charts in terms of game intelligence in comparison. I remember sadly reading an NFL coach flat out say that Wilson couldn’t grasp the playbook and it was sad to see that because TW was such a good rep for us and I hated to see that after “Smile Season”.

Johnny Manziel

Eh not really. His second year in college was statistically as good or better than his Heisman year. His team was worse.

Didn’t really flame out til the pros.

Came here to post that as well too.

Sophomore year was statically better for him, we just didn’t win as many games because the defense dropped off. And he didn’t flame out until NFL where the OP seems to be asking about flaming out in college after a good college season. Either way Manziel had two great seasons and would have had more if he wouldn’t have declared early.

What an idiot you are. Stetson’s a 5th year senior and has improved every season. He’ll hang 50+ on that rag tag Tennessee D in Athens and I’ll be there to witness it like I was in Knocksville last year.

Oh BTW, Stetson has NC ring for Peyton to kiss.

You’re right. It was because of Mike Evans that Manziel was the SEC’s leading rusher in yards and touchdowns in 2012. Ryan swope also had 900+ yards receiving.

He had a higher completion percentage, 400 more yards and 11 more passing TD’s in 2013.
