How has no one mentioned Stingley?

He looked like he would surpass PP7 and then diva’ed out.

Because the jury's still out on him.

Great freshman season, definitely showed hints of being elite. He basically vanished the same time LSU cratered as a program... but:
A) was he injured, with a full recovery ahead of him in the NFL?
B) did he make a "business decision" to practically sit out the rest of his college career, again to emerge in the NFL?

If it's one of those 2, and he plays at a high level in the NFL, he avoids this designation.

If he bombs out of the league for whatever reason, he jumps up high on this list.

Same talk floated around Ja'Marr Chase during his opt-out year, but he has proven to be great in the pros.

I think the spirit of the OP is more towards a guy like Justin Vincent- seemed to be a surefire superstar blossoming at the end of the 2003 season. Never came near to approaching that level afterwards; I looked it up and he had more yards as a freshman, than the following 3 seasons combined. Then never made a dent in the NFL.

Quickly come to mind.

Who was that quarterback that won a championship for Texas? He should be up there too!
