We actually managed to hang on to #1 for two weeks. Most people have forgotten or never even knew. That's how cool it is.

That stinks. Gonzaga will likely not relinquish that ranking the rest of season. They’re in conference play and face no more real competition until the NCAAt.

Will be a tough game for us. Not sure how we’ll be able to matchup with Jabari Smith but I’m excited to see us play on the road and to see how we handle it. Plus CBS games are the best

I mean, if you're trying to build a basketball program from scratch and you've never been #1, and you deserve (by many/most writer accounts) to be #1, it's not that surprising that people care, is it?
Nobody thinks it's meaningful for the season, but it would be a strong accolade for a program that has never done it before.

On the grand scale, I agree. And most/all AU people do. Nobody is taking it THAT seriously.
But at the same time, losing a good game to a surging UK doesn't mean Auburn shouldn't have had the spot this week. So it's not that big a deal, but it sucks when one douchebag keeps a team from picking up a small victory they earned on merit and that would have some history for the school.

Auburn will bust just like they did last year and the year befor and the year before …. Overhyped and never finish worth a damn 4-5 big 12 teams will finish higher mark it down
