So basically for most part just took what 5-stars and highly rated 4-stars they could. IN some cases not really taking into account where they are on the depth chart.

In our example Trey'Dez Green will certainly play some, and he's made flash plays in practice as you would expect a 5-star 6'7 245lb TE would...but hes still 3rd on the depth chart there. Unless there's some type of injury to Mason Taylor or Ka'Morreun Pimpton. He's looking at a 10-15 type catch season probably on the high end.

So you think Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Ole Miss, LSU, Penn State, and Notre Dame all have depth issues?

That doesn’t seem like a good take. It does seem like a bitter take.

At certain positions, yes. Do you think Zabien Brown would be slotted to start for Georgia? Probably not. Would several freshmen at Georgia be slotted to start at Notre Dame? Likely yes.

In an even more obvious example, Dylan Raiola would most definitely not be on this list had he signed with Georgia. Having the opportunity to start/play a lot definitely matters.

So your take is that Georgia is the only team in the country that doesn’t have depth issues?

I don’t think it’s a controversial opinion to say that Georgia has better depth across the board than all but maybe 1-2 other programs.

Two of those schools are Alabama and Ohio State. Teams your buddy says have depth issues.

Based on recruiting rankings, the three most talented rosters are Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State. But only two of those have depth issues?

Why are so many Georgia fans still struggling with success so much?

I’m just speaking based on my actual impression of all the rosters in question. Alabama definitely has a lot of opportunity at DB, for one. OSU also lost a lot at WR, but I actually think Smith, Williams, and Coleman all would have been on this list at any school.

Do you think any of the OL on this list would be starting for Alabama? Assuming no, do you still think they would be on this list?

I can't speak for Georgia because I haven't followed them closely during Kirby's tenure, but Alabama has had major freshmen contributors throughout the most dominant dynasty in the history of the sport, and they've had them all across the board- QB, LT, WR, RB, CB, MLB, Edge. You name it, great freshmen play if they're ready to play. All indications are that Ryan Williams and Zabien Brown are ready to play. Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Amari Cooper lead the team in receiving as freshmen. Caleb Downs lead the team in tackles as a freshman. I don't think you need a reminder of how dangerous Tua, Najee, and Devonta were as freshmen.

To be fair there is an opening at corner at Bama- but as a counterpoint, there are 2 outside corner positions and 5 of the 6 outside corners on the roster were rated as 5 stars by one service or another.

If they beat out the players in front of them yes. But none of the offensive linemen listed play for Alabama. So it is a hypothetical.

Speaking of hypotheticals, would any of the players listed start for Georgia?

No one is arguing any of that. Georgia will have several major freshman contributors this fall. However, if you’re putting a preseason freshman All-America list together, the safe bet is going to be to pick players who are both extremely talented but also have a clear path to playing time. That isn’t some slight.

No one was picking Tua on any preseason AA teams as a true freshman.

I think the WRs would all have a decent chance.

Pretty sure Kelly said he wanted more 12 and 13 personnel this season.

For comparison, here’s their 2022 freshman AA preseason list. And, here’s 2023.

One true freshman from UGA that is not on there, but may be a household name by the end of the season is Nate Frazier. Just remember the name...and be afraid.

Nobody is acknowledging it but KJ Bolden is likely starting for us. Not because of depth issues, but because he’s fricking talented. Nate Frazier and Ellis Robinson won’t start but they’ll sure be in consideration for this postseason list.

Smart sure was talking highly of Bolden. That Q. Johnson kid is getting some rave reviews at DE as well. They're saying this is our next Bennett/McConkey....overlooked by the recruiting experts but will end up a star.
