In college football? You’ve already got one of the top 2 or 3 coaches of all time coaching in the division, 2 other national championship winning coaches as well as a guy who’s made it to the championship game along with Kiffin and leach who are said by most to be two of the biggest offensive gurus in college football. Pittman hasn’t proven anything so the jury is still out on him and he’s the weakest by far on paper but he’s built a solid staff and will recruit well for where he’s at. Overall though I can’t think of any division ever that had this many quality coaches in it. To the sec west

It's not even the strongest group within the last 5 years.

Next question.

I don't know about 'strongest.'

But it will definitely be fun at SEC Media Days:

O, Leach, Kiffin, Malzahn, Saban, Fisher, Pittman

It's like having Fat Bastard from Austin Powers, Bobby Knight, Dennis the Menace, Don Coryell, John McEnroe, Lil Abner and the New Kid On The Block - all at the same dais.

There were 3 coaches in the division in 2011 that had won a National Championship.

ETA: so 50% of the division at that time.

In 2001, the SEC East had Phillip Fulmer, Steve Spurrier, and Lou Holtz who had all won a national title and a young Mark Richt who was one of the most talked about up and coming coaches in the game at the time.

Hell, in 2007, the SEC East had Fulmer, Spurrier, Meyer, and Richt. They also had Rich Brooks at Kentucky who won 8 games and had a great run at Kentucky (for Kentucky standards) until he retired. Even Vandy was only a game shy of going to a bowl and did the following season under Bobby Johnson.

I think the big swing is obviously having Saban in any division.

2011 was the best of the West. Miles/Saban/Chizik were all sporting NC rings.

Lots of big names but Jimbo and Saban’s best days are clearly behind them. Leach has still never won a conference title. Kiffin did great at FAU but still has yet to prove he can sustain it in a power conference. Gus’s ceiling is still two losses. I did like the Pitboss hire for you guys though, following the LSU blueprint instead of half assing it like texas am who just picks through our garbage
