On Indiana and "talent rankings"

A long time ago I used to work in strength and conditioning for athletics. I bounced around a couple of high level D1 schools and spent 2 years at a D2 school. In my time in D2 I saw some of the the best athletes id ever seen just in our program. Even amongst the D2 level athletes youd occasionally get the 22 year old senior who just became a damn good football player. You knew that you could plug him into any high level program and hed hold his own.
Every week, a team wed play would have 2-3 of these dudes that id think "damn wish Bama had this guy"
If you have the ability to construct a team with these kinds of players...you get teams like Indiana. The all-star team of just our D2 conference were full of guys that played NFL ball and the would wipe the floor with pretty much any D1 team.
I wouldnt expect Indiana to go anywhere if Cig can keep pulling these diamonds in the rough

Not every guy has completely developed by 18. These 5 Star guys out of high school developed early and get all the recognition. The majority of guys don't fill out and get done growing until their 20's. Too bad eligibility is usually up by then.

Isn’t the what causes Iowa to randomly have a really good team? Grown arse 23 year olds with years of college nutrition and strength training

You like slo-motion football. Why? Please do tell who did Indiana beat this year that earned them so much status? What is their SOS?
The BIG 10 schools will get smashed in playoffs as long as officials allow the teams to play.

This is such a hilarious take. Ohio State is the reigning NC. They beat an SEC team this season. They have a team loaded with future NFL draft picks.
And Indiana just beat them.
Do I think these teams dominate throughout an entire SEC schedule?
Probably not. But this whole “they gunna git blone owt, Paul!” take is lazy.

This is the big key and often times why evaluations in HS were tough.
We got this guy in from California once(at my D2 school). Just a weird, eclectic guy(he wore a Dora the explorer backpack cause he thought it was funny)...dude had unlimited strength. He had never really been trained before...so I had to teach him fundamental lifts that most learned in HS. One day he accidentally got on a bar with far more weight than what his sheet said...dude nonchalantly did it like it didnt even phase him. I stopped his workout and just started adding plates and telling him to do a couple reps...bar hardly ever slowed down. He was so green and the weight got so high that I got worried and just stopped....long story short this freak of nature eventually won conference defender of the year and went on to play in the NFL for like 10 years

The BIG 10 is slo-motion football. I was asleep mid-way through 2nd qtr. OSU beat a 3 loss SEC team the first game of the year in their house. Who else did they beat? The BIG 10 SOS is in the toilet and the beatdown is coming.

Bingo
This is why it took me 8 years to graduate college

These "slow motion teams" have won the last 2 NCs. OSU humiliated a good UT team. Indiana is far from "slow motion"

They played nobody this year as well. Their SOS is in the tank. They about to be exposed.

The SEC won 17 out of the last 24 NC. Every now and then a blind hog finds an acorn. The SEC is about to go on another run. It may come to a point the SEC pulls out of the NCAA and starts playing on Sundays.

The thing is that while less talented teams have always been able to "get up" to upset a team here and there during the season, that's different that winning 3-4 consecutive games against other highly ranked teams.
That's why the 12 team playoff FAVORS the big name schools, not the little guys.
Last year we had the following teams (by 247 talent ranking) in the playoff.
#2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #9, #11, #17, #25, #30 and #76.
The final 4 was #3, #4, #9 and #11
The final was #2 and #9
#3 won it all.
This year we're starting with (assuming Bama and ND make it):
#1, #2, #3, #5, #8, #9, #14, #21, #29, #68, #72 and #127.
We're going to end up with 2 top 15 talent teams in the finals of the playoff. It takes that to survive the playoff itself.

Cignetti has had a pretty easy schedule and he motivates his team. People act like they’re playing with dwarfs when most of their competitors have the same level of talent. Most programs like Indiana can recruit gems and they will never be highly rated because they’re going to an “Indiana” or non traditional powerhouse, this has always been the case when kids commit and evaluations stop. Also don’t be fooled IU is spending just as much money as everyone else. He should be very proud though that he’s doing great, got a big new contract and eyes are on him.

None of these big 10 teams are built for a sec conference schedule. They don’t need to be though.

Ohio State made everyone else look like they were running in mud during the playoffs last year. They have incredible team speed. This isn't Tressel-ball anymore. Urban Meyer changed the way that program recruits.
