Ole Miss has self-reported an NCAA violation after a freshman walkon played in six games last fall while, without the school’s knowledge

The ole MSU defense.

As a result, Davis will be forced to sit out six games of the 2013 season while also missing select practice time, an Ole Miss spokesman confirmed Tuesday.

So there is a penalty for one player.

Since when did OM start self reporting?

Carlos Davis made one tackle during the Egg Bowl.

So...forfeit? Seems fair.

Memphis had to give up a Final Four for the same thing.

I am guessing if the Ole Miss player had been an impact player the penalties would have been a lot more severe.

For Memphis it was Derrick Rose.

ETA: That being said...I feel like the death penalty is needed here.

This player was a walk on.. Not like he was recruited. Plus he did not tell Ole Miss AD..

The whole game was Muffin pulling the long con. Let them win, get up big, put an ineligible player in, make them think they've got the trophy back, and then boom a year later hit them with sanctions. Classic Muffin.

As the article states...you can still get punished even if you didn't know.

Just another excuse as to why OM out recruits State. It has nothing to do with compliance
