While they will never admit it, the person who deserves the most credit is Kiffin. When Kiffin came in 2020, the football program was in the gutter after probation and Matt Luke. Money from football creates revenue for the whole athletic department. The excitement generated from Kiffin coming and then turning around the football team quickly led to the financial ability to support other sports in the NIL-era.
I like how Ole Miss fans want to credit their AD, pulling in same direction, and donors, but the elephant in the room is that Kiffin was the key. If the football team nosedives, then athletic revenue will suffer for all sports. It’s a lot more precarious than they want to believe. In terms of future relevance, they are closer to Ms State athletics than LSU, Texas, Georgia, and A/M.

This is just not true at all.
Freeze had us winning as big or bigger than Kiffin.
The real difference started with Tubs back in the 90s when he got rid of the flag.
That began a long, slow repairing of race stuff that is still not completely gone.
Its the Ole Miss administration and fanbase who have kept trying and fighting to improve since the 90s.
Carter as AD and the new NIL structure have more to do with it than Lane.

Lane certainly generated excitement and helped change the expectations. He deserves a ton of credit.
Keith Carter has pushed all of the right buttons in his tenure so far. Hiring Lane and Beard were considered huge risks at the time. Bianco's teams achieve the most when his feet are near the fire and Keith choosing not to auto-extend him last year may have been the trick for this year. Of course, Keith and Mike had many conversations after the 2022 SEC tourney about making a change, and Keith had begun a prelim search. Ole Miss snuck into the Coral Gables regional and the rest is history.
Walker Jones is another instrumental piece. We have someone who truly understands the sales and marketing side of sports running the NIL collective.

Hugh Freeze’s record at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) was 39 wins and 25 losses over his four seasons as head coach from 2012 to 2016 Sports-Reference.com+1.

Hugh Freeze, pre NIL, had Ole Miss in back to back NY6 bowls (in the current format that'd be in the CFP).
Just stop man.

Highly doubtful, no 3 regular season loss team has made the playoff without winning their conference. Ole Miss didn't appear in their conference championship in either year.

So same as Lane pretty much.
Both got teams to playoff level.
How is this so hard for you to grasp?
Freeze won the first Sugar Bowl for Ole Miss since the dinosaur. He showed we could contend before Kiffin ever got here.
The program was healing before Kiffin and had already shown the same level of success he attained.

Well, sure, if you ignore the part where Lane won 15% more of his games.

Because it isn't real.

Sure, if you think beating #16 Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl is any kind of definitive statement.

Freeze and Lane very similar at Ole Miss
Yeah the AP finishes and CFP final rankings might actually lean a little towards Freeze, if you don't include the playoff run Lane didn't coach.

Are you high? We always should have been? lol wow…..we’re in a tiny, poor state and yet there are TWO SEC in the state. LSU and Georgia are the ones who “always should have been”….huge population in those states with ZERO in-state competition….what a joke.

Go read the name of the bowl that #9 Ole Miss got with a 3 loss regular season in 2014 dumbass. The Peach Bowl was a NY6 bowl aka the top 12 teams.

LSU just went 1-20 against SEC teams with winning records in the Big 3 sports. They are in a thread telling everyone a school that just made the final 4 in football and the final 8 in baseball that they suck.
They’re one of the most aggressively retarded fan bases in America.

You're making it very clear that you don't understand the difference between making the playoff and bowl tie ins.
But for the sake of argument, let's say Freeze makes a 12 team playoff in 2014. Kiffin makes it twice, in both 2021 and 2025, thus destroying this whole argument that Freeze was as good as, or better, than Kiffin. Perhaps Kiffin also adds a third appearance in 2023.
