This will sound shitty but Freeze's first year reminds me of Chizik's first year. Both took cellar teams to resurge into solid seasons and followed with strong recruiting classes. I hope it pans out better for Ole Miss than it did for us 4 years later so we will see.

very alike

when I saw the tweet of "let's rejoice over our signing class" it was the first thing that struck me...I'm not really a person who is into bringing faith into sports so it gives me the willies....might turn out very different, might turn out just like the Chiz

Ole Miss outscored Bama in the second half this season. Ole Miss should have and very easily could have beaten LSU. Ole Miss was raping A&M and they were so good that they turned the ball over 6 times. Both of these teams lose a ton of talent. We lose none. It is very much in the realm of possibility that Ole Miss will squeak out wins against LSU and A&M. Deal with it.

Ole Miss has been the homecoming game for most people. We'll see how you do now that a target of sorts is on your back.

Really nice class this year. When i look at the class that LSU and Bama drag in every year its numbers.LSU has 17 4 star players.Ole miss has 9.Dept means everything .If they can recruit for a few years like this year they will improve.

Yeah, I hope it pans out better than a BCS National Championship and a Heisman Winner... Man, that'd suck...

Best case scenario: They compete for second and lose most of the time.

Worst case: Continued mediocrity.

Obviously the Heisman winner was the random part of the whole situation. And he was the reason for the Natty.

Here is the ranking list right now.

Top Tier - LSU & Bama - untouchable
Middle Tier - A&M - good, but not great (yet)
Bottom Tier - Auburn, Arkie, Ole Miss, & Miss St.

Next year, I still think their win over Bama was an anomaly, but A&M will be better and may join LSU & Bama at the top.

Ole Miss and Auburn will move up to middle tier. Arkie is still one year out from that.

Mississippi State will be all alone at the bottom.

And a preemptive note to A&M fans. You are not on someone else's level until you can beat them and it not be seen as a MAJOR upset.

Jury will be out for a few years on Ole Miss. They have to put together another top 10 class or two and develop them.

Also, as to the tiers:

I think Bama is alone in tier 1 right now.

LSU is losing too much to be in the same tier next year. LSU isn't going anywhere, but next year they are not going to be as strong. They signed a good class this year but last year's class was 19th I believe.

A&M looks about the same IMO. And the main reason they are even in tier two is JF. They will stay there though since their recruiting is going so well.

AU will be back in tier two soon as well.

Building off this class, what are they capable of?

1) The class is top heavy. We're gushing over 4-5 players here. One of those is JUCO - will only be around 1-2 years. Another is from South Panola - and their players traditionally have trouble staying qualified. After this season, you could see 4-5 players dwindle to 2-3.

2) They need 2 or 3 more classes with talent like this to compete in the West consistently. Heck, you could argue they need 2 or 3 deeper classes than this.

Overall, they got a handful of great players, mostly on the lines. Will that be enough? Probably not.

Any other hard-hitting analysis you'd like to bring to the table?

IDGAF why or how they got those things. The fact is that they got them. For an Auburn fan to say "oh yea but Chizik SUCKED!11!" might be true, but his tenure was still very successful.

In a couple years they should have a pretty good squad, if Freeze can continue to recruit at a high level. You cannot win the West or the SEC by having 1 phenomenal recruiting class. It takes depth to go the distance. Looks like Freeze will have the Rebs in position to make some teams nervous in the near future.

I believe their coach will be snatched up by like Texas or some other elite job soon if this happens again. That putting Ole Miss back to the pack again.
