hard to believe...yet, here they are....playing for the College World Series national championship.

The Rebels baseball stadium is now the 3rd-largest in the SEC @10,715, after Miss. State (15,586) and Arkansas (11,581) and just ahead of LSU (10,326).

Awesome, Rebs!

A losing record in conference play and one game away from being able to call themselves the best team in college baseball.

Lame. Good for them, though. Nice job turning it on when it counts, Rebs.

Couldn’t win their division, sounds familiar.

Couldn’t finish with a winning record in their own conference.

Has that ever happened before?

The top of the SEC West was a jumbled mess with 5 really good teams. Four of the five made the CWS.

Ole Miss hit a rough patch in the middle of the season, but started playing better towards the end of the SEC regular season, and got hot in the Miami regional.

Perfect timing, no doubt.

We shouldn’t play any tournaments, championships, etc.

Don’t want to upset your idea of how champions are crowned.

SEC West had 4 teams in Omaha. That record doesn’t look so bad these past couple weeks.

Haha, the SEC West is just a damn juggernaut. Like Football, baseball is the same. You could take almost any SECw team and place them in another conference and they would probably win that conference.

As Proverbs 27:17 says
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

SEC sharpens SEC!!!

To think that Alabama swept them in Oxford earlier this year!
How many other team sports do think that a below .500 in league team could win a national championship?

It’s baseball, the best team never wins it all. Best tournament team does.

OU is done. Batters have no chest and that lanky SS is an error machine that can’t hit. OM holds the trophy this evening

Under the right circumstances such as these I would say it could happen in just about any team sport with a postseason tournament outside of football

The closest parallel that I can produce offhand would be the Fresno State team that won the 2008 title. They finished 43-31, though they won the WAC tourney. They also lost the first game of the Super Regional at Arizona State and the first game of the Finals series against Georgia before coming back to win both. LINK

Yep. It’s a shame it will not exist much longer.

I just chuckle when I think how Alabama rolled into Oxford trying to turn their season around and swept the Rebels. At that point, Ole Miss slumping badly and everyone left them for dead. There was plenty of talk about firing Bianco and who would replace him. Fast forward to today and the Rebels are 1 game away from the natty and it's Bohannon who's on the hot seat.

Rebs did have a winning record against SEC teams this year, though. 3-1 in Omaha and beat State at a neutral site game in Jackson. 18-17 against the SEC is all you need to be the best ??
