We’ve been there for a long time. When we fired Nutt, I think it was one of the first buyout/golden handcuffs situations of that magnitude.

I wonder how much that one series impacted recruiting this week. It's one thing to sell a program that is currently good but sending all its talent to the NFL shortly. It's another to get an opportunity to demonstrate the future they're going to be part of.

That's rich. Do you really think every school cheated to the same degree? What everyone doing what SMU was doing but players just wanted to go to the school that much? Or was SMU offering more than other schools?

Bama had elite players as backups riding the bench and pretending players were more than happy to do it for the love of the school yet somehow now that they can actually get paid and transfer to better opportunities suddenly they don't have that same level of love?

The current shift is the same as when college football started getting more national media coverage and suddenly kids didn't need to only go to 4 or 5 schools to be seen on national TV. Every time there is a shift in football to level the playing field the blue bloods cry and moan about how unfair it is and how the sport is dying.

Dying? This is the best year of college football since 2007. Vandy is fricking a legit team this year. Army and Navy are watchable for more than just being service academies. Indiana is good. Georgia isn't boat racing every team by 3 touchdowns. Hell we are almost finished with the year and there is no clear and obvious 2 teams that will be meeting in the championship. This year has been awesome and the majority of the people bitching are the ones seeing more L's on the record than normal.

Thank you for sharing the perspective of someone who is used to seeing L's on their record.

We've always known that money walks in all directions. It talks a lot these days, too, in the current world of collegiate athletics.

Folks don't seem to understand yet that coaches aren't exactly "recruiting" the same way anymore. Things like signing bonuses, salary guarantees, and retention bumps are the critical factors to hire/keep an elite roster intact.

Ole Miss has a chance to be competitive because other SEC schools can't rat on us for paying players anymore.

Lane Kiffin offenses are awesome for a WR.

I used to think this, but as it stand Judas wells has lost a lot of money leaving SC to go to OM.

I think it absolutely played a part. The negative recruiting comments against Lane were that he can only build a team for this year and after this it all falls apart. Simmons just proved that there is life after 2024 and a bright future.

Would you rather a Milroe be your QB or a Dart?

If that's how the guy is looking at it, then he's pretty dumb considering Milroe won't be here next year and the offense is going to look much different after.

Players look at the VALUE a school has to offer. If you came to Alabama you got the best facilities, the best coaching, and the best everything. It gave players the highest chance of being drafted and fulfilling their NFL careers.

When that changed and it became about paying players, Saban retired.

People need to cheat to take players away from that, and losers need to make up excuses.

Well that’s rich your argument hangs in the balance of we didn’t cheat as much? So you broke but not enough to win? I’m sorry is there some kinda cheating salary cap? That’s just stupid.

You literally made this part up. I even said there was a shift, the argument you’re attempting to make is that the shift is cheating vs the transfer portal(ffs the fact I have to explain what you’re even attempting to argue is astounding)

This is 100% non-debatable fact. Kids did look at other factors besides money but usually their final 3 got in the same ballpark money wise.

No idea. We have the #3 QB in the class committed though.

Funny enough, SMU is trying to buy him.

And it is completely legal. Instead of it happening under the table it is now in the light to some degree. Much less slimy than it was previously.
