I have found OU fans are often considered top notch outside of a few programs. Texas certainly doesn't think of them that way, and fans who are solely OSU fans, and not fans of both, don't care for OU fans. They often have the typical T-shirt fan accusations a lot of flagship schools receive from the secondary state school.
But Nebraska-OU was famously a rivalry born of mutual respect. I've never seen two fan bases that truly considered one another rivals speak of each other so highly.
I'll admit I have some good friends who are Sooner fans, but we're not good friends that weekend in October, and we always acknowledge we will always root against each other's teams.

I’ll give credit to OU for only claiming legit titles (unlike some other SEC schools… both OU and Texas would be at 10+ if they used fake metrics some other SEC schools are using to put fake numbers up in their stadiums)
That said, I can never understand how any OU fan is able to look himself in the mirror and actually take pride in his school… they obviously know the truth… so it’s always puzzled me as to how a person rationalizes rampant systemic steroid use and overt, unparalleled cheating.. and still take pride in it.
It’s akin to someone being an obsessive Mark McGwire apologist. We all know why he put up record breaking numbers in 98. And it’s understood and dismissed by the general sports world.
Yet OU fans are able to embrace it and pretend that it’s normal… nothing to see here…
I can’t even imagine the amount of self-denial required by OU fans for them to take pride in their home state school. But they do. I feel sorry for them.

That is sort of like how I scratch my head as to how a Texas fan can look at himself in the mirror and take pride in the fact that all but one of their national Championships was won by a coach who is a graduate of OU...
And the guy who won the other Texas NC was a former assistant at OU who was named in one of the major allegations in OU's 1989 probation... yet Texas hired him anyway.
And the cherry on the top is that second guy (Mack Brown) had his boss at Oklahoma... speak to his Texas team before a bowl game one year.
