" In an interview with The Athletic's Richard Deitsch, however on Deitsch's unaffiliated Sports Media Podcast ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro reaffirmed that Texas and Oklahoma will indeed remain in the Big 12 until 2025."

Good, hopefully the deal falls through between now and then

That’s my thoughts as well. If Texas wanted to move they would make it happen in 2023.

Yes we know this.
Just last week we had posters saying it was going to be 2024.

Wait. I thought ESPN was going to direct LHN money to pay exit fees so they could be here sooner?
No?
So does that mean?
1. Texas doesn’t want to come because they will get their arse beat? But they will eventually suck it up and come?
2. The SEC will take all the LHN money from 2025-2031 divide it between schools and the plan to give the balance to the Big 12 is dead in the water? And Texas will eventually come?
3. Texas isn’t going anywhere and this is all a ruse to gain recruiting momentum. Meaning that eventually Texas will go independent or join a conference they can more easily influence.
I will go with number 2. But I can see any of these as being what transpires.

tu scared as hell.
Also, it's sad that a television network is basically controlling conference realignment.

1 - isn't 2025 the last year of the current rotation? However, this makes the B12's plans interesting.
2 - I figured Tex. & Ok. would join at the same time.
3 - maybe the SEC will figure out what their format will be by then

I agree. But I think they may be more afraid of not coming and allowing us to continue our momentum unchecked than they are of coming and getting beaten.
Remember they can always fall back on the all time record even when they lose. So, why not play us and try to stop us?
But you may be right. Texas has their own bills to pay and losing to A&M on the national stage at the CWS might have given them pause. Just for a moment.
What if the world watches the annual game between Texas and A&M with a national title on the line and A&M wins? You can’t spin it and say, “Well the SEC is down that year.” That’s not how the SEC is. It’s not ever “down”.
For the first time ever Texas has to play A&M and they cannot control the media outcome if they lose.
They are just now processing this reality and I am not certain they want to play this game.
They are very good at business decisions and I would bet there is a better option for them with far less risk.

There is so much talk about the money and contracts on this deal that is completely divorced from reality, it sometimes seems pointless to try to inject some facts, but, one more time, here we go.
1. LHN dies when Texas goes to the SEC. The contract is terminated, the money stops, and the channel goes away.
2. There are two hurdles that have to be cleared for OU and Texas to make the move. The first is that they have to give 18 months notice of their departure to the Big XII (they have not done this yet), so that the Big XII can withhold their last 2 annual distribution checks (money from media rights, NCAA tournament distributions, and some lesser revenue streams). This amounts to about $40 million per year per school. It won't require OU or Texas to write a check, but it will leave them about $80 million light in their bank accounts relative to expectations.
3. They either have to negotiate a buyout of the Grant of Rights with Fox and the conference (which will require writing a check, but what that amount would be, no one knows), or, more likely, simply wait for this deal to expire June 30, 2025 and go to the SEC after it has expired. If they wait, they can avoid writing a check and this is certainly the cheapest way to leave.

Not joining until 2025 is interesting for both with respect to football recruiting. Pretty clear difference in styles of play for SEC vs B12. OU is a good example of what happens when they match up vs SEC style.
Not saying that OU and Texass won’t recruit very well for SEC style but when do they make that slight change in direction? Are they going to recruit now and next year for SEC style or B12? Difficult decisions coming.
Obviously basketball and baseball recruiting doesn’t change at all. So they hit the ground running.
Football… the weekly physical grind and depth needed on both lines is something the B12 teams don’t deal with.
