re: Oklahoma and Texas fans, would you ever consider moving the football game out of Dallas?

I never understood the Texas thinking on that game. If you are gonna battle with a skunk why invite him into your living room to do it?
A lot of truth to this, especially now that OU will only have Texas and aTm as conference opponents in Texas. Dallas recruiting is OU’s lifeblood. Why give them a guaranteed game there every year? It’s not like TCU or SMU are going to dominate Dallas if Texas pulls the game from there. One of the few instances of Texas not acting solely for their own benefit.

How many Texas and OU or Florida/GA fans have never seen each others campuses?
Not sure, although I'd say most OU folks have been to Austin. A lot of Texas residents will apply to OU and visit.
The only relevant question is whether the fans who would actually go to the game would prefer going to Dallas for one game.
Even if there were no traveling fans, OU and Texas fans who live in DFW could fill the stands themselves.

My theory:
Texas isn't a pussy about competition and
Texas itself recruits better because the game is in Dallas.

The actual game is kind of beside the point. It is strangely not that important of a matchup. Even when the Longhorns were competitive under Mack Brown

I’d be open to a home and away with Texas.
They do so in all other sports, I wouldn’t mind rotating a bit.

They will get zero vote in in future matters.

Gtfo you’re not a real OU fan or you have never been to the cotton bowl to watch a game. Heaven on earth.

I used to live in DFW and am quite familiar with how painful it is to get to the Cotton Bowl and navigating traffic.
I have no problem against a home and away series.

No. The game should stay where it's at.
Same here. That's all part of the experience. That's why (if you're a student) you go down the day before and crash at someone's house (fraternity if you've got a chapter at one of the local schools). The only reason that game should move is for rennovatons, and the contract has already been signed and sealed that the game will be back once all of that is done.

You can't compare TX/OU to these garbage week 1 neutral site games between 2 teams with no history. The RRR in the Cotton Bowl is special. Anyone who attends the game understands why it should stay put.....and it will.

Right, but there were fairly few really important matchups in that stretch and none of the games had title implications.
Your 2005 title run featured an unranked OU team.
The 2002 game should have been a big game . . #2 vs #3 but it wasn't really competitive.
For whatever reason, one team is often up when the other is down or big games turn out to be lopsided victories.
It is hard to find a truly high stakes "Game of the Century" type matchup in the series like you have seen with OU/Nebraska, Florida/Florida State or even Ohio State Michigan.

Just as an aside, although early on the Hogs vs Aggies was a great idea (Hogs won the first four), once A&M joined the conference, it lost most of its appeal (about the same time they started their run on us) - most of the games have been close and I've no doubt, even with the crap coaches we had during much of the series, we'd have won at least half of those games if they were home and home - can't wait to get away from this neutral site - if we picked up another game there that happened to be non-conference, it might be ok but is still frought with issues - if we had national appeal like Bama and the boys, it'd be different - I don't want to give up a home game to play SMU, OK State or the like down there - plus, you take your life into your hands driving through eastern and southern Oklahoma - its the wild west over there

The game has been terrific as of late. Since 2014, all but two games have been decided by one score or less. There have been epic comebacks and game winning field goals. It's one non-SEC game I always watch.

DFW is equidistant to Norman and Austin, and is loaded with OU grads.
If the alternative is a home & home, then you're opening up the Austin & surrounding areas to OU exposure. Lots of great HS talent there.
For many reasons, this is the greatest neutral-site rivalry game in all of sports, and the SEC is inheriting it. It's not gonna change until if/when the Cotton Bowl no longer exists.

The talent in central Texas is not on par with DFW. And likely grew up rooting for Texas due to proximity. Going home and home would be a net negative for OU recruiting.

I think a good argument can be made either way. Unpopular take, but sometimes I wonder what a home & home for only one year would look like. Weird as hell, probably..
