Clearly not targeting. Lead with his hands. The SEC should over rule this one. Let the boy play.

You can lead with your hands and it still be targeting

LINK

quote:

Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area

Oh, also the very first thing under where they define "defenseless player"

quote:

Note 2: Defenseless player (Rule 2-27-14):

A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.

Devin White also launched himself into Fitzgerald. Another point for targeting being the correct call.

I don't think it should have been called, but it wasn't as bad as the booth-initiated targeting call that caused A&M to lose starting CB Renfro against USCe.

So you cant hit the QB when hes passing?
That's some BS. Course Kash got ejected for "targeting" when he did no such thing to Bentley. Not a nice hit but not targeting

You can't target them while they're passing.

You can legally hit them while passing.

It's a judgment call sometimes. Which isn't optimal because most refs are shitty.

Agreed. SEC refs are probably the worst in the business.

Interesting you say that. Another point for targeting being the correct call in this case as the rule explicitly states:

quote:

When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI)

The rule needs to be looked at heavily in the off season. I will say it's better than when they first started it though. Even if they determined it wasn't targeting they still kept a 15 yard penalty. That was some hardcore bullshite

How is that bull shite? That was the easiest unsportsmanlike call I've seen all year, those two LSU players were acting like jackasses

Its not uncommon to stack up multiple penalties on one play. Don't do the crime if you can't pay the price.

Didn’t lead with hands to the head/neck area, hands intended for and struck the breastplate shoulder pads was clear as day precisely for the reason he wanted to avoid targeting by extending hands to the legal body area

Except his hands clearly hit him in the chest.

Launched himself and yet landed on his feet and even tried to put one arm around Fitz to hold him up. That’s some damn good athleticism.
