If Oher had received royalties from the movie wouldn’t that make him ineligible per NCAA rules? The movie came out his senior year. NIL was illegal back then.

What royalties? NCAA ineligible? The movie was released November 2009.

Honestly who thinks they’re great people? They suck and have for years. They’re the worst kind of stereotype about our school.

Well...there's a lot of questions and issues and I'm not saying there aren't. I'm also not testifying for the Tuohys.

BUT, it appears undisputed that they:
Brought him into their home to live, with their two children.
Fed him. I can only imagine how much he consumed each meal.
Clothed him.
Brought him to school, and other places.
Gave him love and emotional support.
No doubt all those other small daily things that parents do.
Hired a professional tutor working 20 hrs/week.
Helped him (along with others) navigate academics, raising his grades from basically 0.0 to passing.
And who knows what else?

Anyone with children knows what a demand that is, every day, even for your own biological children. It's crazy to me how all of that is just being ignored with this feeding frenzy.

In the movie they bought him a jacked up pick-up truck.

Quid quo pro. They wouldn't have done any of that if the kid didn't have football talent. They took him in and steered the kid to go to Ole Miss. You think they would have wasted their time and money on some a slow 5'1" Guatemalan kid with no athletic ability?

Another small thing from the ESPN article on this that is kinda telling:
quote:

His lawyer unearthed the conservatorship document in February,

I "unearthed" it after spending about 5 minutes looking for it. It's Public Record and the Court has free public internet access.

The writer probably quoted that from the lawyer, to make it look like it was hidden and nefarious.

And I'm sure his lawyer billed 2.5 hours unearthing the documents.

I can tell you that a lot of people around Ole Miss have known the Tuohys are scum for years.

Anyone who went to Briarcrest with SJ, or had to be around Leigh Anne and Collins when they came to KD for rush every year will tell you they all suck as people.

He was already done with college football when the movie came out. The end of the movie is actual footage of him getting drafted by the Ravens...

Neither You nor I know what they would or wouldn't have done in another situation. We only know what they did do.
Do you have children?
Do you think you could "fake" being a good parent for long, especially for a kid that needed a shite ton of help academically and with life in general?
Possible but unlikely.

Do you think the Tuohys faked being good parents when they got him to sign the conservatorship before his senior year of high school?

I don’t know the pros and cons of the legal arrangement (for example, compared to adoption or other measures) nor their possible motivations for doing so.

That is disappointing.

fricked up world is fricked up i guess.

Well, at the very least, this guy was able to grow and develop with some modicum of love and support, regardless of the underlying motives.

This Oher scum tried extortion first...

Tuohy family attorney claims Michael Oher demanded $15 million before lawsuit over 'The Blind Side' residuals

Here is an example... Britney Spears' dad had a conservatorship over Britney because she was a druggie.

If the Tuohys wanted to make Oher family, he could have been adopted. He would have all legal rights of a non-natural born child of the Tuohys.
Per Oher, that is what they attempted to do with the conservatorship (this is what the Tuohys and the Tuohy's attorney told him when he signed before his senior year of high school). Oher's current lawyer is telling him that the Tuohys bent him over and put one in his rear.
