Not many programs that need top coaches are going after a guy who doesn’t have an elite eight on his resume.
I get the LSU excitement but he had as many NIT appearances (1) in his coaching career as he does sweet 16 appearances (1).

Why is Will Wade such a fixation for LSU fans? He’s a sketchy dude and doesn’t win that much.

Our basketball program was absolute dog shite and the previous 2 coaches before him were worse than watching paint dry. Will Wade came in and injected life and passion into the program for the first time in a LONG time. Then, he was successful (by LSU's standards) during his time here. His passion is infectious and one thing about LSU fans is if you show us love, we will love you back. Will Wade did all of that and then some.

Fair enough, I guess. It’s interesting that the Will Wade experience seems to be polarizing in general. NC State seems pretty disappointed overall.

I'm not scared of him coming back. Any fanbase that is, isn't a top tier program.
Wade made his name coaching in a weak SEC. Everything after 2018 was a gradual decline.

I will be honest here, that is part of what I love and it's why I like Lane Kiffin now more than I did when he was hired. I absolutely love that hate. I loved that Wade's teams were looked at as the bad guy.

I really don't understand the excitement for a dude that got beyond the Round of 32 one time in 12 years of coaching. I get LSU has sucked and it would be an improvement, but surely the aspirations are higher than that.

I don’t think that’s been NC State’s experience though. His passion didn’t really land there for whatever reason. He wasn’t all that popular at VCU either, and I wouldn’t describe either place as particularly stuffy.

LSU is selling themselves short going for Wade imo. He is a good coach but he has been around for a long time now without much to show for it. I think there are better coaches out there but LSU has been so bad maybe this is the best they can do

Year 1 was obviously rebuilding and then he didn't have an oppurtunity to do it in 2020 because of covid. So, you're really only looking at a 3 year sample at LSU as far as the tournament.
