the only thing i could see keeping Saban away from ND is the recruiting. ND's problem hasn't just been coaching. Talent has been a problem also. They like thier players smart and they like their players Catholic. That limits your recruiting pool.

ND does not accept just anybody. They have academic standards and they want them to be Catholic or convert.

I don't buy this.

Maybe they want them to (like it's a definite plus), but I doubt they'd deny a scholarship because of it.

What about Manti T'eo? Isn't he a Mormon?

I honestly don't know. I am sure they make exceptions, but check out their roster. They definitely go after the Catholic and the higher academic standards. I think this ties their hands when it comes to picking talent. But, that's what ND is - a Catholic university with high academic standards.

Don't worry Bama Fans-you need not worry until Saban comes out and says " I will say it now-I will not be the next coach at Notre Dame".....

Something to think (or worry) about - no buyout clause in his contract = at least a 5 million dollar signing bonus.

Based on Saban's ego, this might not be the best year to win another MNC.

the anonymous official is probably jimmy sexton. that's just how he operates. saban will probably get a nice raise from bama this go around, but most likely that is it.

Yes, the extension and raise he signed in July just won't be enough. He's already looking for more, four months later.

not about the money with him. he wants to be a storied program. you can't touch ND. nobody can. everyone else really is just pretending. my god, who else has an entire network deal?

plus its closer to a real city (chi-town). he could be done with the south.

If he was so enamored with ND he could have went when they came after him earlier this decade. He's not going anywhere.

Saban could pile up some hardware at ND, what does he have to do beat USC and he plays in the BCS, win 2 games. Or stay at Bama with the boosters risking sanctions probation, and fighting for his life every weekend in the fall?
Who knows

The amount of cash Bama generates triple it and you have ND's athletic department. Then when you factor in boosters that have more money than the entire SEC could match they can offer cash that Bama can't match. Hate to break it to you but cash is not ND's problem.

We have a winner.

IF saban went anywhere it would have nothing to do with money.

Notre Dame won't go after Saban because of his personality/image and his age. They will go the younger/long term route.

Notre Dame would be smart to go after Saban. He is the best coach in the country. Saban would probably be smart to go. He has brought Bama back, what else can he do there?

He has restored the program, whether he actually wins it all this year is not going to change the fact that a once proud program fell on hard times for a long time, and in two years he turned it around.

If he turns N.D. around it would be a great story.
Grantland Rice might return from the grave. "There were four horseman of the Apocolypse when the fifth crested the hill. He was not so much a horseman, as he rode a pony, but the men of the valley wept, as he led the charge."

Now that I think about it, it has to happen.

Saban can wins as much at Alabama as anywhere else. Stoops will next coach at ND IMO. In fact I think he may have one foot in the door already. His team seems to be giving up as a result.

Have you looked at ND's schedule?

Sept. 4 PURDUE

Sept. 11 MICHIGAN

Sept. 18 @ Michigan State

Sept. 25 STANFORD

Oct. 2 @ Boston College

Oct. 9 PITTSBURGH

Oct. 23 @ Navy (played at the Meadowlands)

Oct. 30 TULSA

Nov. 6 TCU

Nov. 13 UTAH

Nov. 20 ARMY (played at Yankee Stadium)

Nov. 27 @ Usc

how will they ever survive that?

The only team they have to get up and beat is USC. Stoops will not be the next coach at ND, my bet is on Kelly though if I were them I wouldn't go for him.
