Very nice. Good for State

I think this was surpassed last year.

LSU receives history-making donation of $245 million

They probably spent nearly that much on that monstrosity of a house they built at Highland and Bluebonnet.

More like on the massive research campus on Perkins

The total in earmarks Richard Shelby appropriated to the University of Alabama from federal funds would dwarf anything on that list.

In a past life, I did some HVAC work on new construction of an annex at Pennington.

It's probably the fact that Aggie is a diploma mill for a lot of high paying careers and those alum are happy to toss some coin back.

Using taxpayer dollars to get his name on buildings. Not just at Alabama. This is a major problem with the our current government.

Haven't looked but wouldn't the Vanderbilt Foundation or whoever it was that started Vanderbilt be the largest to Vanderbilt if you look at it in today's dollars?

Vanderbilt gave 1 million to change the name of the university, Duke did the same at Duke. Too bad Sewanee did not get the same.

Vanderbilt was rough as a cobb and never actually went to the state, just donated it sight unseen to help his robber barron image which was pretty bad during his lifetime. Based on some stories he was more like the Bill Cutty character in "Gangs of New York"

Based on past value of the money, the LSU gift would be the second largest in terms of impact at the time it was given.

$125,000,000 in 1981 would have been worth $247,387,238.72 in 2002 (year picked to easier compare with the Arkansas and Texas donations).

Just an interesting (to me at least) bit of info. Ultimately, they’re all enormous sums.

What a waste of money that could have been used for much better causes.
