Couple of posters on UCLA's football Reddit were inquiring along the lines of, "Are they going to get us some offensive linemen too?"

I think their fans that have brains understand what is probably going to happen here.

Not really. He’ll still be playing for a P5 program and will likely have even better stats due to playing against weaker competition

UCLA is very low end P4 now, they're pretty bad, especially offensively.

You also have all the cross country travel.

Have they really been a position to halfway scare anybody since Mora was the coach?

Nico is doing what is best for himself.

By going to a program for less money in a state that is going to rape him on taxes after all this started over money? Yeah, he's doing what is best.

And ucla is gonna suck even with him.

He definitely wasn't very good and I don't think UCLA will win shite with him, but I have to admit them even making the playoffs next year would be funny as hell.

He better be wise at investing. He isn’t that good. Not saying he won’t get drafted but he just doesn’t look good. He is going from a really good offense to be coached by Tino Sunseri. A first year OC under Deshawn Foster who isn’t a very good coach. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t regress a lot.

He's not going to make 4 million. California state taxes are some of the highest in the country and that's not even counting federal taxes. Tennessee has zero state income tax. He made a stupid move.

His federal will be an itemized writeoff after state taxes. Most NIL will be filed under 1099 he'll end up paying very little or no federal taxes.

And actually if these guys bother to get a CPA since they have to do itemized deductions anyway the actual tax burden will end up being very little. Their apartments, cars, meals, everything else will be an independent contractor expense.

Why is all of this a big deal? He wanted to go back to California. That is his choice and business.

Really not a surprise. "Iamaleava" was printed right there on the back of his jersey.

Uh,….i don’t think so. However it plays out we will hear about Nico for years. If he is a success at UCLA then Tennessee fans can look forward to being trolled mercilessly.

However, there are signs that point towards him having a tough row to hoe at Troy Aikman’s alma mater: new and inexperienced coaching staff, O line uncertainty, and the pressure that will come from his portal baggage. In this case we can look forward to the gleeful “I told you so!!!….” from the rant experts.

How so?

1099 means you are responsible for 100% of your taxes while a W-2 employee it's only 50%.

I got no dog in this fight.

Some say life mimics sports…seems like this is a case of sports mimicking life.

Happens every day. Dude shops his skills, asks for more…sometimes, employer says, “we don’t think you’re worth that, we have other options, you may go, good luck.”
