Saban will coach at an elite level until the end of time.
He feels the clock winding down in 5-10 years and goes for one more championship. He wins one at 75 and decides to retire. With 11 championships. He announces the day after Signing Day with the #1 class for the 10 year in a row.

He retires and as he pulls into the driveway at the lake a meteor hits earth and kills every one.

So you see it can last to the end of time.

He'll be 67 this year. 70 is around the time most elite coaches start declining.
And how many minutes do most NBA players play until they start declining?

But Lebron keeps being the best player.

Saban isn't like other coaches.

He's in good health. He isn't chasing shite. He doesn't coach for the same reason other coaches do.

Every coach says each year is different and they're just trying to get the best out of blah blah blah.

I'm convinced Saban would be happy getting 4 wins out of a 2 win team. The man legit starts new EVERY single year and enjoys "the process." Other coaches fake enjoying the grind while they die on the inside from the process.

Agree. Bear's heart problems caught up with him and medicine couldn't do then what they can do now. I think a good example would be Bobby Bowden. I don't know if his age just turned off recruits, or other schools used his age against him, or if he just didn't have the stamina to work as hard at coaching, or the stamina to evaluate and recruit players. There's no way Saban has the same vigor that he had 10 years ago, but he still has enough. The question is when does his aging affect his results. His comment just says he's aware that it eventually will and he won't make the mistake of hanging on too long.

I think that’s part of building a program. You build a solid foundation, you establish a process that is proven to succeed at a high level and you aren’t required to do the shite you had to do ten yes ago. Saban runs his own shite, he calls the shots, makes the decisions, hires and fires his own coaches and support staff without interference from some pencil pusher in the AD.

Saban has the body of a guy perhaps 10 years younger.

Bear had the body of a guy 20 years older.

I've told yall this time and time again:

Saban will coach until Ms Terry tells him he can't.

Dude is in great shape for a guy 10 years younger, his football wisdom still seems to be on the upswing, he's a recruiting machine, and he appears to have struck the perfect balance of intense competitiveness and ability to unwind and recharge his batteries. He could quite easily continue to coach Bama at this level well into his 70s.

But he's p-whipped. The minute the boss tells him it's time, his career will be over.

Keep in mind that Saban looks younger than some men that are 10-15 years his junior, he's in good shape and very active, so you have to keep that in mind. Bear Bryant and Joe Paterno, were still not in nearly as good health as Saban is in his mid-to-late 60s. Mix in the fact that Bryant drank and smoke, though, so that really aged him, I'm sure, he looked a lot older than he was when he died, sadly. But Paterno was well into his 80s and still coaching. I'm just saying, don't count Saban out because of his age.

But regardless it would be unreasonable to expect him to be able to keep Bama going at this level more than 3-5 more years. Father time is undefeated.

Bear also lived a hard life. Drank, smoked, and looked about 80 when he was 65. Saban appears to be MANY MANY years younger (in terms of health) than Bear was at a similar age.

So...theories about who he means (but would never say out loud) when talking about coaches that stayed too long? I'm thinking Bowden. Maybe Mack, but I doubt Saban has that much respect for Mack.

If Saban wins another, I don't think it is possible for his legacy to be truly tarnished

Saban's "process" is so well entrenched in Bama culture, he probably could move more into a CEO role and still win 10+ games a year until he is 80
