Nick Saban: The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves

"The way I look at it is, as long as I'm healthy and as long as I feel that I can do a good job, I want to keep doing it because I enjoy doing it," Saban said. "What I don't want to do is just stay forever, forever and forever and ride the program down where I'm not creating value. I would never want to do that, and I think I'm a long ways from doing that. I don't want to talk about anybody else, but there have been a couple of coaches where their legacy was tarnished by them maybe doing it longer than they should have. That won't be me."
He ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

He'll be 67 this year. 70 is around the time most elite coaches start declining.

I'm going to spill the beans here: the REC has some medical associates in Panama, where Saban goes to have stem cell treatment during one of his few times not diligently working. He's got another 10 years baw.

Elite, sure, but the GOAT?

Who knows? Bear went from back to back NCs in 78 and 79 at the age of 66 and 3 years later he was gone.
We may have already seen the best of Saban, or he may keep it going for a bit longer. But regardless it would be unreasonable to expect him to be able to keep Bama going at this level more than 3-5 more years. Father time is undefeated.

So what you are saying is that there are at least three more beat downs headed your way and after that it gets iffy. I can take 10 in a row over your declining program.

This your new team?
And Bear was not in the shape Nick is. Big difference.

It's not just Bear. No coach has ever kept it going too much past late 60's/early 70's. Just doesn't happen, it's too demanding a profession.
Could Saban break the mold? Sure, anything is possible I guess. Never thought Brady could keep it going as long as he has either. Just saying you shouldn't expect it.

for now, but that's going to be winding down soon.
trying to replace Saban at Bama will be the toughest and most thankless job in college football history.

His comments say a lot. He could very well be there a while more, but what exactly are his standards? What happens if he goes 10-2 two seasons in a row? Does that count as tarnishing his legacy? Would he bow out at that point?
That being said, if Tua lives up to the hype I could see Saban finishing up his career with him.

Better question is how many 2 or 3 loss seasons will it take for bama fans to start grumbling about wanting him to retire?

Do you realize how much happiness I have recorded on my DVR over the past ten years?

But it took the greatest dynasty ever to put us in that position. Can’t have one without the other.

Our run from 2000-2015 may not have been as good as Bama's current run, but it brought me a LOT of great memories. Doesn't make our current position any easier to swallow though, in fact it makes it worse.

he will die on the sideline

2020 will be Saban's final year.
3 more years of dominance. Probably 2 more Nattys and 2 or 3 SEC Titles. 3 more playoff appearances and a 15-0 record in 19, which will be the best team Saban has ever had.
