Saban was just on Golf Channel announcing Justin Thomas first off tee in his group. Smart move by Ole Saban as many people who are not only big fans of Golf (I am in that group) but also casual golf fans are probably watching the Tournament.

Damn, any LSU golfers in the field, we Need Coach O to get on Golf Channel!

Nah they need to get Coach O at Taladega or Daytona to announce “START YOUR ENGINES”.

Saban and Justin Thomas have been close for near ten years now.

Saban recruited him to Alabama and played golf with him a few times over the last several years.

Great story, I was aware the two of them have become good friends and they play some rounds together but I didn't know Saban helped recruit him from Kentucky, where he grew up, to play at Bama.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Thomas tells the story that it was the morning of the Tennessee (?) game and that Saban spent time talking golf with him when Thomas was on his recruiting visit. Thomas has always mentioned it as what a big deal it was for him at the time.

Was wondering if they ran out of tees and Saban volunteered.

No don't think so!, good one. But Saban from What I have seen is a decent golfer, He played in the AT&T pro-am at Pebble beach a few years ago and stuffed an Iron shot off the tee on a par 3.

Golf is only for elites and wanna be elites. Like Randy Quaid said.......”golf, golf, golf, sounds like something’s stuck in my throat”.

Well I disagree about elites only. Tiger Woods has thrown that theory out the window. Many great Asian players on the tour as well. As a kid I kind of thought the same thing since many of the Gold rated type Golf Courses were tied to country clubs. But after college and over time started playing more and fortunately Baton Rouge has some nice Public golf Courses where peoples from all demographics play regularly. I have met people on the Golf Course and Driving range that I would have never met otherwise.

I’m just being a silly bassid Stop Robot and I know it’s very hard to get that little white ball in that hole. Im just the kinda dude that doesn’t belong within five miles of a country club or golf course. Play your game I’m just joking.

I agree, my family were not Country club worthy either growing up. Too Catholic and Too Italian. So while I have the means to join one today, I never will. Still, I love the game of Golf and typically was getting in 60-65 rounds a year. Obviously 2020 I will not be able to but for me other than College football, my 2nd favorite sport. A young guy starts playing in his teens or 20's, you can play that game well into your 70's (I am in my 50's and plan God Willing to do just that).

that has to be one of the most asinine statements ever on SEC rant. Golf has more diversity, racial and economic, than any sport I can think of.

Many a business deal gets done on a golf course.

I made sure my kids started playing very young an I've encouraged them to continue into adulthood.

Exactly, the PGA tour has players from like 30 countries on it, approximately 90 players. Looking at the leaderboard as of the morning of 12 June at the Charles Schwab, I see Vegas from Venezueal, Ancer from Mexico, Collin Morikawa, American of Japanese ancestry, Harold Varner III (Black American) and Sungae IM of South Korea all in the top 20.
