I know most of you are Alphas, but I need you to be a Beta tester. I have been working with my guru at the Webmaster Academy and we think we have a pretty strong update to the desktop version that we would like you to test. We have had some brave users testing it out for the last month and the feedback has been overwhelming positive.

The biggest changes are the left links section has been replaced with customizable "My Forums" dropdown. The initial list is all the forums you are used to seeing, with a link to customize the list at the very bottom.

Also, on that same nav bar are Quick Links to your favorite forums. This list is also customizable by clicking the icon at the far right. Note: For smaller screen resolutions (eg, iPads), some of the forums at the end of your Quick Links list may not display on the screen. Please keep this in mind when adding forums to your Quick Links list.

IMPORTANT: You can mix TigerDroppings.com forums with whatever SEC Rant forums you choose. So navigation to and from your favorite forums on TD should be easier.

The Forums link to the right of the SEC Rant logo will contain the list of all forums offered. When we add new forums, they will appear on this list, and will be available on the My Forums and Quick Links customization pages.

At the top of each forum, there a three ways to sort the topics:

Active: sorted by last post date/time descending...which is the sort everyone sees now and is the default sort.

Trending: uses an algorithm to sort the index based on several factors that I cannot reveal...it is a closely guarded secret...if you haven't been on the board for some extended period of time, viewing this sort may help you catch up on the more popular threads of the last day or two.

Recent: sorted by thread start date/time descending....to be used to see the most recently started threads...comes in handy on a busy board where you may miss newer threads that are quickly pushed down.

The My Forums button on the top right of the indexes is an easy way to cycle through your My Forums list. Note: you will be kept in your most recent sort when clicking this button. It will revert back to "Active" after you click directly onto a new forum.

The Trending link on the Quick Link nav bar will show trending topics across the entire site. Once you are inside the Trending list, you can view Active and Recent topics across all boards. NOTE: right now, it will only include SECrant.com topics.

On mobile, if you customize your My Forums list, that is the list that will show in the forum menu at the bottom of the page. Also, you will see that the quick way to jump to the forum list is now on the top right of the page.

We welcome your feedback.

I probably spend more time on the site while at work, than actually working. I volunteer as tribute

The drop down probably works if you are only reading / posting a few boards but if you are posting most of them with frequency, the current side bar works much better. If it is a bid to save space perhaps using logos instead of text would work better.

Do you trust Big Dhillip or are we looking at a Bush's beans dog scenario here?

Can we see a return of :kige:

Can we add [strikethrough] and spoiler to bold, italic and underline

Also, will the new version allow continuous logging between TD and tRant? it gets annoying to log separately onto each.

That is why you need to customize the Quick Links bar...those are you most frequented boards...

I do like my quick links set up at top, rather than having to scroll through a list.

Going to sign out and then return to see if it stays or reverts to original.

edit: it kept my quick links. +1

I'm down if you want someone on mobile. I always use the desktop layout anyway.

I'm already a tester.

I'd still like to see the forum listing on the left though.

I just played around with the "My Forums" section. I think most here check out team boards of other teams (hence coming to an SEC-based website), and while I do love the addition and ability to customize, I think it would be best to include all of the team boards there by default, then you can delete anything you don't want there instead of having to add.

ETA: Also, the ad banner being on the right side will probably anger a few people if they use the bar to scroll with (accidental clicks). That might be the intended purpose, but if not, a left side ad banner would be more user friendly, and quite honestly viewed more that way through the peripheral when scanning threads.

I second this. Spoiler tags especially.

TIA

Not going to lie Chicken, an instant messaging/or private mail function would be pretty cool. As it is now, you have to post some sort of identifying information to the masses to give your contact to one individual.

Also, the ability to turn off the upvote/downvote function would be cool if possible.
