Yes. We play BAMA, UGA and Florida every year, played ND back when they had their ridiculous rosters, got beat by Nebraska 45-17 who won the title that year in the post season and we won the BCS directly after. You don’t get better by playing bad teams, especially when you’re on the edge of breaking through again.

Don't forget too how in the 80s, 90s, and this century Tennessee was always playing USC, UCLA, and Oregon in home and homes too. Had a home and home with OU when they were a powerhouse in the Big 12. Tennessee has always been one of those teams historically that will play anyone anywhere.

Hell I'm still pissed how pussy arse Dooley ducked out on a UNC home and home 15 years ago. So shameful that was. Other than that though we have nothing to justify when it comes to our willingness to play power 5 programs out of conference.

Tell this to Stoops. If we update the schedule, we might lose Louisville, and we should play them every year. I'm not sure cupcakes help your team very much

Hasn't Mark Stoops at 2-10 vs the Vols head to head been the winningest UK coach against Tennessee football since you guys had Bear Bryant prowling the sidelines in the 50s? (and even that 2017 win 95% of Vol fans were rooting for a L because Butch Jones was on his way out already. 2020 Covid year in an empty Neyland Stadium was the only game that made us legit angry losing)

Kentucky needs all the wins they can stack up usually. Would be nuts of you guys to ever schedule another potentially challenging OOC game besides Lville

Not if three losses can still get you into a playoff.

Nebraska's not the least bit scared of Tennessee and they're not running from you. Hogwash.

Then why didn't they just request another postponement instead of requesting cancellation? Last year, Nebraska was 1 game over .500. That was the first season they have been above .500 since Barack Obama was President (2016). From 2017-2023, what was their record against OOC P5/4 opponents? How about 0-6?

Last year's win over Colorado State was their first OOC P5/4 win since they beat Oregon in the 2016 season. As a side note...how did they do in their bowl game in that 2016 season??? They lost to a Butch Jones coached Tennessee team. That was the last time they played an SEC team. It isn't that they are scared of Tennessee...it is that they are scared of any SEC team.

They just played Oklahoma recently. I understand it was before OU joined the SEC but these games are determined years in advance. I really doubt if the year they played Oklahoma coincided with the year the Sooners joined the SEC that they would have pulled the plug on the game(s).

Y’all beat Wisconsin and won your OOC games last year.

What kept you out of the playoff was Vandy and Oklahoma.

What kept Alabama out of the playoffs was Jalen Milroe

Rhule is Nebraska.

A coach and program who made their reputation a generation ago, pretend like they are still elite but whose actions show they’ve accepted reality.

Them playing a former rival is a little different than a typical OOC game. Remember, they played against Oklahoma every year from 1921-1997. They played them 8 times between 2000 and 2010, but have only played them 2 times in the last 15 years. Still, a traditional rival has different pressures than other OOC opponents.

Apparently Nebraska is working on their stadium

Good strategy. Wish LSU brass would push the Clemson game back to the 3rd week.

Pushed back once for the battle of Bristol.

It doesn’t make sense for them to play the game. They are not ready.

Ohio State played both teams in Columbus last year. Nebraska played us much better than Tenner did. I highly doubt they're scared to play UT.

Their coach says they are scared to play anyone they have a chance of losing to in the non-con. That's what this thread is about. It's right in the first post. It's really strange to say that you saw 2 teams play 1 game against your team and one was more competitive, so throw out the rest of the results. That's like a 2011 message board take.

Until SOS plays a bigger role in the CFP picks and rankings, I tend to agree with him.

They did only lose to Ohio State by 4, a week after losing to Indiana by 49. I guess they really should be scared of the Hoosiers. But they also played a lot closer to Ohio State than Indiana did. Circular logic doesn't always work.

According to Pete Thamel in this Sports Illustrated article...the reason Nebraska cancelled the series was they thought playing a difficult OOC opponent lessened their chances of making the playoffs.

“I think this just comes down to Nebraska just didn’t want to play this series,” Thamel said on the College GameDay podcast. “The one piece of empirical evidence we have of this 12-team playoff indicates murky rewards for a tough non-conference schedule. That’s the data set we’re dealing with right now.”

That might be true, but even if it is, it wasn't because Tennessee is afraid of a Nebraska juggernaut. It's not the 1990s anymore.
