With all those #1 ranked recruiting classes and all those 5* kids with depth at every position, bama lost the game BECAUSE two players were out?! Are you serious? So all those other highly rated kids weren't ready to play or was it they haven't been developed? hum...
Saban can't coach his way around losing two receivers when he has amassed the largest pool of 5* players in the history of college football? That is what you are trying to tell me? GTFO!

Recuiting is half the job of a college coach. If you can't do it well, you won't last in the SEC..

The outside passing game was Alabama's only path to victory with this current team. Once you lose your 2 best outside pass catchers there was no longer a path to victory vs that UGA defense.
UGA was the better team as they had more paths to victory.
Alabama will be back with a better team next year hopefully with better health.

Saban's model is to compile as much talent as possible and and let the ones that are going to break out... break out. They were going to be stars no matter where they played. frick the rest of the kids.... No development = average coach

While your premise that he is an average game day coach is correct, the problem is in your title: "just a great recruiter"
CFB is way more about Jimmys and joes than x's and o's, and that is where he excels. Most of the time it doesn't matter if another coach is running a better scheme or calling better plays if your guys are just better football players than their guys.

2 WR'S, 2 starting CB's were out, and only 1 truly healthy RB. This year PROVED Saban is a great coach, just getting us there.

It's true. They were in the champ game without the typical Bama team. They usually have a dominant RB tandem and household names accross at almost every position in the front 7.
