I liked Bella's idea from yesterday: lock all those people in a room (or building, maybe even put them on a remote island) and let them work it out amongst themselves

Just ban their asses. There's a reason certain message boards get a reputation for having tin-foil sporting, psycho bastards. Tigerdroppings hadn't been one for the longest time.

I avoid those message boards. They scare me.

I'll have to take your word on this. I didn't get approved till November, so it's been a constant gang-bang on Auburn since I arrived.

Has the SEC said anything about including the same language in it's bylaws?

Well, Ice should take out the posters flaming, such as Hog and Crimnsonsaint and Itsme and IronTiger and Wild Thang, etc. They've been warned and people will get the message if the posters that flame AU get banned. Unfortunately, only the Aubs that whine about the flamers have been getting banned, so other fans don't feel the pressure. Let a few of them go and things will get straitened out.

THIS x1000000

The Cam Newton saga precipitated this and the ATPB thread exacerbated it.

To get back on topic....It was really dumb NOT to have this "loophole" closed to begin with.

They better be damn tight on the language here.

What would stop me from going up to Alabama and asking for money on behalf of every recruit they sign, then?

Then why have their own bylaws? Just seems to me, the SEC could have declared Cam ineligible according to their own bylaw but didn't have the guts to stand on it. If they would have, would we be talking about all of this right now?

To go above and beyond the basic NCAA bylaws

if this is the bylaw I think you are refering to, they have not used it on several prominent players as well as Cam. Slive has already commented on this

I agree. I don't think they could have predicted this case though. At least they closed it after one occurrence instead of multiple occurrences.

Maybe, but it is kind of a strange scenario.

Assume for a moment we aren't talking about Cam specifically, but a random player in the future. If a parent or uncle or something attempts to receive pay for play from one school and is rejected and the kid goes to another school (or even the school to which the solicitation was made) and never gets an extra penny, why should the kid be ineligible. Especially if the kid was not aware of what his parent or uncle was doing or if the kid just didn't have the ability to stop the parent, uncle etc. from doing it.

I don't think Bama fans (or any SEC fans) would be happy about this by-law being applied evenly across the board.

But parents asking for money, isn't strange. . i'm sure that happens a shite ton in college athletics. The only thing is that this is going to clog the frick out of the NCAA w/ investigations n etc.

I should apply.
