To get back on topic....It was really dumb NOT to have this "loophole" closed to begin with.
I'm still on the fence with this one after watching the Marcus Dupree special on ESPN. The boosters would approach Dupree's cousins and uncles and offer them money to convince Marcus to go to their school. It would suck for an unscrupulous family member to screw up a kid's like by taking that money when the kid has no knowledge of it.

if this is the bylaw I think you are refering to, they have not used it on several prominent players as well as Cam. Slive has already commented on this
Then why not remove it from the books? Would be cause for a lot less confusion. Why have a book of bylaws that don't mean anything?

My guess? The SEC office is in Birmingham. Alabama and Birmingham have old laws on the books that they don't enforce but won't remove.
For example: it's illegal to wear high heels in downtown Birmingham and it is illegal to spit in Birmingham.

The funny thing is that Alabama fans have been getting skullfricked by these types of comments 24/7 since I've been on this board...Now its some kind of cardinal sin?

I'm not sure what you mean. Is it possible to be more specific and elaborate? Are you referring to flaming prior to the Cam saga?
I haven't seen anywhere near the type of flaming that AU fans have gotten since I joined. Granted, it is to be expected somewhat with the stuff related to Cam, but it gets out of control often.
FYI ~ What DvlAdvocate said is 100% correct. Bama fans have been flamed for years 24/7 on this board.
You don't have a history on here ~ you are a "Cammy Newcomer."
Glad to have you, but you weren't here to witness the bashing we've been through for YEARS.

I agree. I don't think they could have predicted this case though. At least they closed it after one occurrence instead of multiple occurrences.
Yeah ~ I don't think they could have predicted a situation where a father would get involved with "marketing" his son for money.
Maybe I'm oblivious as to just how dirty the recruiting environment really is ~ but I hope stuff like this doesn't go on regularly.....

Yeah ~
I guess there's always some fat cat booster waiting in the wings, dipping his beak into recruiting to his school of choice.

"You will know when we are through investigating Auburn and we are not through"? Surely if they NCAA thought hands down that AU was innocent then they would have closed this caSE already

one woudl think, there is also a school of thought that goes beyond just auburn fans that when you have allegations as serious as this you don't wnat to close it becuase what if some journalist cracks it. Granted they'd then reopen and punish, but the NCAA would look even more inept than they do.
I know i know head in the sand, deflection, we cheated, deal with it, and probably something about how we wouldn't have beaten you if we didn't have cam. Can we skip all this?

My school of thought is that Newton went to AU free. I honestly think when Cecil and company tried to get money from MSU and they turned him down that may have scared him a little bit. And they didn't try it again. Cecil knew Cam wouldn't be eligable to play at State and we did back off his recruitment. I think he may have looked at who could protect his son the best and that was hands down AU. This could all change but I am thinking this is the way it went down

Never sent them a thing. But you AU fans always want to know why us Bama fans can't give your team credit, is because according to an SEC bylaw we think you played an ineligible player. If that bylaw didn't exist, don't know if there would be as much knashing of teeth.

This is what Auburn fans have been saying from the start and have been bashed relentlessly for being of that opinion.
Good to hear from an MSU fan.

That and you call us little brother, or that cow college, or that school down the road. You're more ridiculous than you let on if this is how you justify belittling auburn.
Now i'm not syaing you're alone. We do it all the time to you guys, or at least i do. But I'm also not going to hide behind some farce like "becuase you violated a rarely if ever enforced sec bylaw, i can't give your team credit."
Nothing wrong with just hating auburn. Just because saban might not approve, doesn't mean hating us is bad.
