Alabama's flag has to go to...

Alabama's current flag was adopted in 1895. The legislation introduced by Representative John W. A. Sanford Jr. stipulates that "[t]he flag of the state of Alabama shall be a crimson cross of St. Andrew on a field of white. The bars forming the cross shall be not less than six inches broad, and must extend diagonally across the flag from side to side."[4] Sanford's father, John W. A. Sanford, had commanded the 60th Alabama Infantry Regiment during the U.S. Civil War and he modeled his design on the battle flag used by that regiment

The remnants of The Confederacy, whether flags or statues, belong in special museums. The CSA was an attempt to perpetuate slavery which was the fatal flaw of the USA from the beginning. No excuse for the institution by anyone living in any state or any other country.

It's way past time to admit that the CSA was hardly a noble cause. It shouldn't take threats to withhold sporting events to realize that the CSA was thankfully defeated by the Union and was a blot on our history.

I agree...let's put all these items in a museum. But let's not act as is the CSA was solely about slavery though...because it wasn't. While slavery was a huge issue...there were also issues of state's rights. And why shouldn't a state, if it decides, be able to leave the union?

Let’s not leave out Florida either. It contains The St. Andrew’s Cross design also. The South Carolina’s flag was adopted in 1861 and was the first flag of the Confederacy to fly over Fort Sumpter. One of the four stars in the center part of the Arkansas flag represents the Confederacy. So we are pretty much down to SEC events being in Texas, Missouri,
Tennessee, Louisiana, and Kentucky, with 2 of those states not even part of the original SEC footprint.

I thought flags were just a piece of cloth according to the kneelers. What changed?

The flag GA went to was never co-opted by the klan etc to spread hate, unlike the "other" flag. Therefore, no big deal.

Are you 100% sure?

It really kind of sucks that people say shite like this. And I'm not even talking about the terribly inaccurate use of the words "fatal flaw" in a country that went on to become the worlds largest superpower.

Let's get a few things straight. First off, it wasn't white people who enslaved these people to start with. It was white people who eventually bought them. Those people in Africa were captured and enslaved by other Africans.

So when I see black people doing all their "Africa" type stuff, they are the ones who are actually celebrating the people who captured and took their ancestors from their homelands. If you really want to get "real" about this shite.

Yes, black people made other black people slaves. The topic of slavery has very little to do with race, although it's much easier to dehumanize people of other races to justify it. Religion, politics and all other kinds of reasons get used as well. Slaves of many colors and backgrounds. It basically always requires the dehumanization of the people in some form.

And they had no choice but to continue to allow slavery when the country was formed. It wasn't a fatal flaw, again even though nothing was fatal, the fatal flaw would have been trying to force the opposite. The country wouldn't have even had a chance to form. It would have been 13 different nations, similiar to Europe. And 1 by 1 they would have been picked off by other major countries.

But if you read the declaration of independence and the constitution of this country, what they did do was set the tone for the eventual stop of the practice. They properly defined what it meant to be a free man, what rights a truly free man should have. The only flaw was having to list black people as less worth, but it was hardly fatal. Only need to treat black people truly equal and then they are free also.

Furthermore, it wasn't black people who freed black people. Although I'm sure some helped in major ways. Nor did they just wake up one day and suddenly they were free. It was mostly white people who freed them. And not really because of the civil war either.

And yet the states did want a good bit of independence, to be nation like etc. So the federal government was formed so the states could combine their defensive efforts, have easier methods of trade between them, and things of that nature.

But it's a simple fact of the matter that the states were supposed to be allowed to succeed at any time they wanted without being attacked by it. And those states had every right to do so without being attacked.

That is completely separate from the wrongful right they had to own slaves. No moral right to own slaves. Every moral right for a group of people to succeed from a government they feel no longer serves them. It's basically the preamble of the declaration of independence.

So please stop confusing the 2 because you and others who say this are driving me crazy. In no way was slavery right, but that doesn't mean the other side was right in everything they did. The north had slaves and they weren't freed until after the war.

Stop trying to turn a complex topic into a fricking soundbite.

The confederate flag at the bottom, how many times has anyone seen that flag at a klan rally, how many times have you seen that flag at a cross burning, at a lynching?

That other flag (not in this post), the confederate battle flag has been photographed throughout HISTORY at numerous incidents of hate, racism, brutality, murder, lynchings, and out & out domestic terrorism

Yet there are slippery slope defenders trying to split hairs to find any scintilla of an excuse to defend these racist, outdated images

Too late, your State flag is already shite, fitting since the rest of your state is thought to be shite by the rest of the Union

I wouldn’t know because I’ve never gone to a klan rally.

So has Georgia’s flag - you know, the whole civil war?

I’m not defending anything. The SEC is on the wrong side of history because they are piling on an already hated symbol while implicitly letting another one fly with their silence. MS must change it’s flag, but it’s wrongness has already been acknowledged, and people like Kylin are already using their platforms to push for change.

Why do you think the Georgia flag was chosen? If you don’t think it was chosen by racists who pine for the times of the antebellum south when they were on top at the expense of others, then you are just as bad as supporters of the MS flag.

I’m proud Kylin Hill plays for MSU. Is there a Georgia Tech player threatening to sit over Georgia’s flag?
If not, then stop throwing stones because at least our players have the balls to stand up.

It’s moreso. Mississippi’s flag is the way it is because racists made it that way several decades ago.

Being a state fan, I would expect you to know your state history better. Unless you consider 130 years as several decades. Either way the same political racists made it.
