If I had a nickel for every f-bomb dropped there in the next ten minutes I could afford to hire Saban for my Pee-Wee Football team.

They would be out of their minds to hire him as head coah. Fla would go down and out big time......

From a Gator board-
quote:
I finally understand what the meeting with Stoops is about.
Foley: Hey Bob, wanna see Texas meltdown?
Stoops: What could be better than them losing 7 games this season?
Foley: I'm gonna take Muschamp and Applewhite.
Stoops: You my boy!
Foley: You owe me.
Stoops: Hey, can you fix it so I can get another raise here?
Foley: Don't push it.

From ShaggyBevo:

Mack is driving the Valdez drunk, This is a mismanagement of Enron proportions. Florida knows what to do to win and them having that potential staff is outrageous. Meanwhile Texas with Mack refusing to pry his liver spotted hands from the levers has us with no coordinators, a 5-7 record and a potential to lose many recruits. Thanks Mack

After the Zook fiasco I cant believe FL would take a chance on an unknown. Gators will call for Foley's head if this fails. Better win 9 next year Will...

Nobody knows either way if Petrino was ever contacted, interviewed, shown a night on the town, etc. and anyone who claims they do is probably, 99% likely to be full of it.
Similarly, nobody can claim he turned down the job either. It's just hearsay and wild speculation. Do I think he loves being at Arkansas? Sure, let's just leave it at that.
As for the Muschamp hire, I'm pretty disappointed. Foley claimed he was going after a coach with a history of success. Muschamp has no history at all.
That being said, it could be worse. I'm sure we will acquire a brand new pipeline into the Texas recruiting market that never existed before. And his knowledge of the southeast is unquestionable.
Should be interesting...

I am amazed UF didnt hire Mullen. I would have thought Mullen was a done deal before UM resigned.

Is this really the big splash hire? I thought the Gators would do better.

I think it's pretty obvious why we didn't take that route.
Mullen has done a heck of a job at MSU, and would have provided a smooth transition having been brought up in Urban's system. One could argue he was Urban's system. This, however, could have been his downfall in Foley's eyes. The past year or two has left a bad taste in the mouth of Gator Nation for the run oriented spread offense. I'm sure he wanted a change of pace from what has become, frankly, a stale offensive system in the SEC in favor of one more similar to Bama's.
I think Foley is impressed with (or envious of) Saban's model and also wishes to use this hire as an opportunity to gain inroads to some fertile new recruiting grounds.
Following this line of reasoning, I think this hire makes perfect sense.
Stoops has always been high on Foley's list of targets so I'm pretty sure we went after him first, but as many here have noted, he has no reason to leave the empire he's built in Norman. Couple that with the collapse of Texas (now even more so
), and you have a pretty damn good situation up there to be leaving.

No, it's not, but it could be worse.
Obviously, we would have preferred Stoops, Peterson, maybe even Gruden. Contrary to conventional wisdom, however, there's more to to the job's attraction than money, location, and recruits. You're asking a man to uproot his entire family and move across the country, while turning his back on young players he promised to raise and develop for 4 years.
Not easy.

Muschamp will turn out to be an excellent hire for florida.
