Because in that 14-15 season he had the perineal basement dwelling MSU in the damned playoff rankings.

Go look at their wins and schedules for all those years. Look at floridas schedule this year and tell me they shouldnt win the east just off of that.

How many 5 stars come out of Florida compared to Georgia. Look at Saban’s history with recruiting Miami area athletes Florida gets poached way more than Georgia even with Clemson and whoever else coming into atl for kids.

From an LSU fan perspective, I watched Mullen blowout LSU in Starkville

Didn’t UGA then blow out that same MSU team? Like around 31-3 or something?

Yes and LSU was a mess at that point of the season, we barely beat Syracuse and then the Troy debacle after which our season turned around

The Mullen move I will never forget was the 2014 Alabama-State game in Tuscaloosa in which Alabama took a 25-13 lead and State got the ball with 3 minutes left on their own 28. State proceeded to take the entire 3 minutes to go on a scoring drive with zero sense of urgency. They ran 5 plays in 90 seconds between the 3:05 mark and the 1:31 mark before running 5 plays in the 40 seconds between the 1:31 mark and the 49-second mark.

It was obvious to anyone who watched that Mullen was hoping to lose a game to what would be the #1 team on the road by 5 points, win out and sneak into the (first year) playoff

Perfect example of Mullen's WTF tendencies. State was #1 in the country and had played one close game all year and Mullen treated that game like his team had no chance to actually win, he just wanted to not get embarrassed. Which makes no dang sense when you've been at the top of the polls for almost a month and a half.

I was at the game in Athens, that was a good State team but they had no passing game they couldn't move the ball if they couldn't run it, and UGA shut it down. That was also the first time at State that Grantham's kamikaze blitzes got exposed (along with the Auburn game the following week that was also a beatdown).

Aside from those two road games in September and Thanksgiving Night when Mullen had his car already loaded up to leave, his last team at State was one of his better ones.

Look at the population sizes. Florida doesn’t get poached anymore than the state of Georgia.

God that game. I legit thought we were going to win and then we lost 6 yards on a screen pass play 1 and went 3 and out.

UGA got the ball and called a fleaflicker and hit for a wide open 50+ yard TD

They 'gave' him his first because he had been coaching so long, then his second NC was one of the greatest teams ever.

What Mullen has been able to do since he's got here has been pretty remarkable, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Y'all really don't understand how bad our offenses had been in the 8 years before he got here. As Gator fans, we've had to endure some of the worst offenses that I've ever seen.

Florida Total Offense Stats
2010 (Meyer's last year): 350 YPG ranked 82nd nationally
2011 (Muschamp): 329 YPG ranked 105th nationally
2012: 334 YPG ranked 105th nationally
2013: 317 YPG ranked 115th nationally
2014: 368 YPG ranked 96th nationally
2015 (Mcelwain): 335 YPG ranked 112th nationally
2016: 344 YPG ranked 116th nationally
2017: 336 YPG ranked 110th nationally
2018 (Mullen): 427 YPG ranked 42nd nationally
2019: 431 YPG ranked 45th nationally

So, Mullen comes in in 2018 and takes Franks and a terrible offensive line and makes them an actual decent offensive team, something no coach had been able to do in the 8 years prior. Last year he takes a career high school backup to lead an offense to the 16th best passing offense in the nation. Not to mention, he's doing all of this with the least talented Florida roster we've seen in over 20 years. The guy is just a genius when it comes to adapting to a roster and playing to it's strengths. In my opinion, that's Mullen's greatest attribute. All that being said, this is the year for him to show that he's one of the top coaches in America. In doing that, he HAS to beat Georgia and make it to Atlanta next season, NO EXCUSES.

Mullen can't delegate, that is why he will never win a Natty. He isn't smart enough to do it on his own. He can't navigate a passing game. He is a one trick poney albeit a darn good one trick pony

The only advantage UGA has is no instate competitors with the history of Miami or FSU, but Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee, etc. are right there so I'm not sure if that matters.

That would be cool if teams couldn't cross the state line

And LSU literally got 2 of the top 10 players in our state last year and Bama gets studs every year from Ga. And there’s normally quite a few that don’t end up in a bordering state, opting for Stanford, Ohio St, Oregon to name a few.

You’re grossly over simplifying Georgia recruiting.

Mullen is like an outgoing cpa. I can’t imagine him in the locker room hyping up a football team. The only advantage he has over smart is developing QBs. But smart is a defensive coach and his defenses are near the top in the nation year after year.

No I agree, the entire SEC plus Clemson has always recruited GA hard and now it's becoming important for more programs nationally; no different from TX or FL. UGA doesn't have a built-in fence around the state by any means. I think Fulmer in particular used to raid GA heavily

I think our biggest issue in the GT game was losing our DC after the regular season. Our defense looked absolutely pitiful and unprepared against the triple option.
