These recruiting services are nice but they miss a lot and often overrate some guys.

could not agree more. There are kids all over the nation who are lightly ranked because they don't play 7 on 7 and who play at smaller schools. Find talent that fits your program, develop them, and you will be fine.

You’ll be “fine” but you won’t win championships. Check out the 5 year average class ranks of every team that has played in the natty. The recruiting rankings canbe wrong on a case by case basis, but there’s no denying their accuracy in the aggregate.

Which IMO is why so many top QBs bust. They grade them exclusively on 7 on 7 which really is only a test of arm talent. Then they get to the real thing in college and it turns out the head isn't on par with the arm.

Mullen better win a lot and beat his rivals or Gator fans won't stay happy for long. Maybe they should bring back Zook.

sinks the ever living shite out of their recruiting for the next 3-4 years

A lot of Florida fans would tell you Jim McElwain already did that.

Man...I just had Tubs deja vu...

Every Auburn fan knew that the program, with just a little bit of effort, could recruit a lot better than top 20 classes. The same for Florida. No reason not to at least have a top 12 class every single year.

Dak in college is nowhere comparable to Tebow

All he said was that both were very successful QBs. Is that wrong?

That is a very interesting point people forget. Recruiting services evaluate talent well, but they mainly focus on guys who camp. Some people just don't have the means to travel the SE for the high profile camps.

Mullen is half right. You NEED guys who fit your program, and star rating isn't everything. And coaches who recruit based strictly on star rating are lazy. There are hidden diamonds everywhere and even Alabama looks hard to find those diamonds,
and finds them.

However, at the end of the day, to win titles, you need GOONS. You need dudes that look like they are in their 30s by the time they get to campus as freshmen. Dudes who look like they are constantly posing for mugshots, even at breakfast (gangbangin' on bacon nucka). Dudes that scare white folks. Dudes that EVERYONE wants. Dudes that you have to fight hard to get and fight just as hard to keep. Dirty South GOONS.

Some Florida fans have voiced concern over the recruiting rankings. “I look at it this way: Tim Tebow was on everybody’s list. Dak Prescott wasn’t, and both were very successful quarterbacks,” @CoachDanMullen told me. “It’s going beyond that to find who really fits your program.”

Damn...Sounds awfully familiar to what Paul Johnson said when he took over at GT. 'Stars don't matter'...and just a few days ago, Johnson stated, 'I could give 2 shits about recruit rankings.'

Mullen was just a little more tactful with his statement. He is aspiring to be more like Paul Johnson and GT. Awesome.

To be fair, it's not like Paul Johnson has a choice between 4/5*s and 2* hidden gems.

To win at the highest level you have to recruit the best and coach them up.

Neither does Merlin with Kirby, Richt, and Taggart around.

Here’s the deal with Dean Marvins. He is a very pompous-arse coach. He feels like he is a much better coach in reality than he is. He feels like kids should be beating down the door to come play for him. He and his cronies, all of which he took to Florida with him, neglected O Line recruiting and WRs as well. We very rarely got shut-out so any loss we had he blamed on defense.

If he isn’t blowing a team out by half-time you might as well bring him a coke and a box of popcorn. He is nothing more than a spectator at that point.

You fricksticks currently have a losing record to us. I wouldn’t talk too much shite about “a school like Mississippi State”.

As Florida fans will soon learn, it's lazier to recruit the unheralded guys because there's less competition for them. It's Dan Mullen's MO. He is the laziest recruiter I have ever seen. He was a lazier recruiter than Sly Croom was.

It'd be so glorious that I'd make sure to tell my future grandchildren about the golden years of UGA-UF football.

I already tell my grand kids about the golden years, 21 of 28 wins, putting up 50 in Athens against the dogs, then following up with 50 in Gainesville. And the next decade when the Gators take the all time series lead. Good times!
