Jackie Sherrill and the castrated bull. I still don’t see what the problem was though.

You would think the recent Les Miles allegations/hush money/supposed to get fired- gets raise and extension instead- situation would be up there for LSU.

If not specifically involving LSU but involving a notable LSU figure- billy cannon getting pinched for counterfeiting as well.

Another to note was the whole Dale Brown/Lester Earl deal - which I think Lester Earl eventually apologized and cleared Brown or something.

Ours is the Kunt Kemp scandal from the late 80s.

The harrick thing was utterly stupid based on today's basketball scandals. We bought a player a tv and gave two players an A in a coed basketball PE class. Dooley was a fricking moron and trashed our basketball program for decades.

Jan Kemp scandal in the 80s. She got fired for agitating against shunting marginally qualified football players into remedial dead end class work. She sued uga and won big.

We were getting hammered almost every day in the AJC not to mention the national publicity and recruiting went in the toilet.

The aftereffects on FB lasted a good 10 years.

Petrino's crash certainly was a bigger deal for the football program.

But the Ted Harrod scandal was worse for all athletic programs overall. The NCAA took years to investigate and the unknowns combined with negative recruiting set us back a few years in almost all sports. It was ridiculous!

From an ESPN article in the extent of the infractions -

"The NCAA Infractions Committee ruled Arkansas committed three
major violations and one secondary infraction. The school and NCAA
found that from 1994-99 at least 20 football and basketball
players were overpaid an estimated $4,300 total, an average of $215
each, for part-time jobs at J&H Truck Service in Dallas, owned by
university booster Ted Harrod."

More harm resulted from these scandals:

Alabama: Albert Means

Auburn: 1957 probation under Jordan even though they won a NC

Miss State: Either Larry Gillard/Tyler probation or Jackie probation

Ole Miss: Billy Brewer probation

Can't recall anything for A&M and South Carolina

I mean, Sherrill did get the ags on probation. They had the whole ‘94 season go on with zero TV appearances because of the ban, and no bowl game as well. That said, if you finish 10-0-1, and your tie is to SMU, who finished 1-9-1, maybe you don’t need a bowl anyway.

Albert Means probably impacted Bama more negatively than Mike Price and Destiny

When the FDIC, the FBI, and numerous other state and federal agencies along with Mossad and Interpol investigated Cam Newton and documented all of Blue TunaTiger’s findings.

Where is the Blue Tuna Tiger?

He was devoted to Cam and Auburn.

Means was by far more devastating to the program than anything else that's ever happened to Bama. That's what set off the saga of the 3 Mikes and led to a decade of almost total irrelevance.

If the standard is most damaging, it's the Means saga by far.

Having said that, OP said "most memorable." Most all of us have a recruiting scandal or two in the closet. Only one of us had to fire a coach before he ever coached a single game (or even signed his contract) because he hired an unattractive 40 year old hooker/stripper at the club, took her and her friend back to his hotel, and paid them by handing over his university credit card.

That's pretty damned memorable. Bobby's dalliance was a very attractive, young amateur and while Hugh hired pros, even he knew to pay with his own money.
