Purple was the most expensive fabric dye in the world and became associated with royalty.

Gold, again associated with royalty.

Green “, the other color of Mardi Gras was out of stock the day LSU first decorated for the football game before the team had chosen colors. The two colors stuck.

It’s a cool story and the color combo is unique in a world of reds, blues and orange.

Don’t forget the logo they stole from Green Bay
They didn't steal the logo. Georgia paid GreenBay a royalty fee for it back in 1964 which was Dooley's first year as head coach. Later on Grambling did the same thing.

That’s pathetic. Can’t come up with your own logo so you buy someone else’s?

In all fairness your logo is arse to mouth so you should probably hold all comments.

LSU fans in the year 2052. "Remember that time we beat Georgia two times in a row?"

That has to be one of the weakest trolls that LSU fans have been repeating around here.

Red and black is a very generic colorway. Couple it with a bulldog mascot and change a couple words off the generic school fight song and you have the most unoriginal team in sports.

But a proven winner of late. UT? Not so much. Congrats on your 2nd place finish in your division.

An old "wives" tale has it LSU and Tulane colors are a result of Mardi Gras back in the 1800s!
I'll take it and give up the most "masculine" school color anytime when it's associated with the greatest free show on earth!

You forgot orange. I know purple is a winner, but orange has to at least be mad about losing. They were preseason Champs.

OP, do you even study war or history?

Aside from Purple being a royal color (and used by the Assyraians). Have you ever heard of Woad (Blue)?

Woad Warriors were one of the few who scared the Roman's. Did you never see the movie about their descendant William Wallace?

The Assyrian came down like the wolf on the fold,
And his cohorts were gleaming in purple and gold

Red & Black was used by that pansy Hitler

NBC logo was ripped off the Bank of Nebraska

The old Chicago Maroon's became the Chicago Bears

You're the only one gaying anything up: "It's not a masculine color because it's not in fashion, honey!"

Our mascot is a Longhorn, not a Longhorn steer. We have to castrate Bevo because we don't want an aggressive 2000 pound animal in the stadium.
