Yeah STL is really weird when it comes to Mizzou. They've got more fans #'s-wise than KC, but I think the KC fans are much more devoted to Mizzou (part of that is because the proximity to kU forces us to be). For the life of me I don't understand what the rift between Mizzou and STL is

STL is like an island of northeasterners in the Midwest. They are different. They have a unique accent that no one else in Missouri or the Midwest has. They're like a shutoff enclave.

I've always said the exact same thing, but STL folk get pissy about it. Just look at the "soda" map. It's pop, coke, and then a big bubble of "soda" centered on STL. You only see soda in the northeast besides STL. The culture in St. Louis is much more northeastern too than it is Midwestern.

When I visit family there I am always aware of how many B1G folks live and work in STL. Not sure if this is the answer but I am guessing it may at least play a part.

The Mighty Mo wins the MNC before Ole Miss or Pig U.
And that's a fact Jack.

quote: Right, so why does nobody think mizzou can do the same thing. We don't even have a big brother holding us back. SCar and Arky both took years to adjust, so I don't understand the bullshite people sling about "mizzou gonna be a failure" because we went 5-7 in year 1

I think part of the problem for Mizzou is that they came in with A&M. The Aggies surprised (shocked may be the better word) everybody, especially themselves with their first-year success.

Arky and USC weren't popular at all when they first joined. Arky was tolerated but nobody liked Carolina. They were losers who had never won anything in any sport. There were no forums such as this one on which to vent, but the bad feelings were there. SEC fans were sure that we had brought in a welfare case that would never amount to anything. 22 years later we're all glad Florida State turned down the SEC's offer and the Cocks came instead.

when has anyone ever referred to mizzou as a sleeping giant, other than in your OP?

I feel this way as well

But I always respected that even in bad times their fans were solid and they did not give off "attitude" like Clemson did at the time.
